I have never thought of myself as the best of anything... I do believe that I am competent but I have found that simply being competent will raise you to the upper levels simply because there are so many out there who are incompetent.
It doesn't take a lot of effort to look good, just do your job. There are so many people out here in every vocation who simply don't give a dang that it is easy to be perceieved as above average.
the reality is that heartland, gordon, swift and so on don't consider any of their drivers as individuals. Individuals are never remembered unless you screw up really bad..
case in point...
On my first day in the Ohio State Patrol Academy the Captain in charge happened to come into my room. I knew nothing of military rank at that time and failed to salute. I then had to suffer through a lecture on military dimeanor but during this lecture the captain gave a very valuable word of advice. "If you want to succede during your stay here" he said"then I better not know your name when you graduate".
That was it...the secret to success that not only got me through the academy but life. .. stay invisible... the only time we get recognized in the real world is when we screw up. Nobody cares about doing a good job anymore. Oh sure they may give you a sticker to put on the side of your truck but for what.. just dont screw up and you can get that. . Those million mile stickers are for not screwing up not for doing anything spectacular.
Gerdin does not have any idea who I am and I for one would like to keep it that way. He is nobody to me. Fact is , in my opinion, I don't consider him successful at all. To me he is nothing more than a slumlord and driving for his company would be the equivalent of living in the projects. Now I know that people survive there but that ain't living...
vic.... please move on... this is embarassing. .

Even if a person is the worst competent driver out their I have to guess that makes him/her better then 80% of the pee bottle throwing, sweat pants wearing, shower when they get home, buffet gobbling, dot bumper riding steering wheel holders out there.joseph1135 Thanks this. -
Well, I have been known to hit a few buffets along the way but other than that I should be ok gabe...lol
joseph1135 Thanks this. -
Hey thats good news I hope your recent
surgery wont bother you to much. I am
going home today to take some time
off. I had a filling fall out of my tooth two
weeks ago and I need to see the dentist.
When I get to the yrd, I will check and see
if they fixed the bumper on your truck. We
will cross paths sooner or later. Its a small
world. If you go back Thursday you should
get a good run heading out west.. -
I talked to them last week and they said it was being fixed..
