I can't seem to understand why Victor feels the need to make these long drawn out posts just to attempt to make a very tiny point.

Gerdin's Dream--A Fictionalized, Speculative Parody of a Possible Executive Dream that NEVER HAPPENED and NEVER WILL...

Gerdin Meets the GordonDuo (Second Dream Segment)

In his normal, conscious, awake moments Mike Gerdin would not likely give a flip the secondary damage caused by eliminating a potential drag on earnings. You figure there's one driver we know here who's no longer with HTLD who would have worked 11 months and gotten paid for 12 because of his multiple years of service. Was that enough to give him a ticket out the front gate?

    Dunno.

It probably did put a target on him and raised the specter of closer inspection. Would HTLD score him OOS for his years of service to Gordon? Dunno. Some with similar or greater years of experience are still there. But maybe they're not in the US Fleet of solo drivers on the kind of runs where HTLD prefers teams. Dunno. Just dunno.

But Gerdin's still asleep right now, hasn't woken up yet. His wife has not yet started to press him for the details of this dream. He won't, in fact, remember any of this, where he has to feel and share the pain he inflicts. He has two drivers at the front of the line, the darn GordonDuo...

Drivers always cause Gerdin extra pain--well, it's the driver's pain but Gerdin has to share it and it starts with the health consequences. On an intellectual level, Gerdin is well aware of the damaging lifestyles he inflicts on drivers. He's familiar with the social, psychological and health science literature such as http://www.uncg.edu/phe/faculty/apostolopoulos/AAOHNJ.pdf.

But now Gerdin has to feel the pain.

This segment, like Scrooge's ghosts, takes Gerdin forward and back. He attends their funerals, for example, 12 years earlier than the national average of 75.1 years for unionized drivers who kick off at 63-years; 19.4 years earlier than the national average of 75.1 years for members of OOIDA who kick off at 55.7-years. He even travels through those years they miss... Gerdin weeps.

Gerdin knows, for example, that tractor-trailer truck drivers have one of the highest rates of injury and illnesses of all occupations. (http://www.bls.gov/ooh/transportati...y-and-tractor-trailer-truck-drivers.htm#tab-3) Gerdin feels each calamity the GordonDuo feels...

Gerdin feels their cardiovascular disease, muscular-skeletal problems, potential cancers and respiratory morbidities, psychological and psychiatric disorders, long-term fatigue from disrupted biological cycles, overweight and obesity, high cholesterol, hypertension, eventual stroke and heart attacks.

Gerdin feels it all... oh, how he sometimes, sometimes at times like this, he hates truck drivers!! Even in his sleep!!

(Any resemblance to real persons, while perhaps not entirely coincidental, is entirely FICTIONAL.)
