For me, tow, if anything reverses my opinion of the whole Gordon family, OK they may not have BS's you and given it to you straight but how many saw this coming...hoe long did they work on this keeping the drivers in the dark? They do not owe me any loyalty as I have only been with them since July, but surely they owe it to people like yourself who have been with Gordon for a long long time and have made them rich and now they are massively rich. Sorry, but my respect for them crashed. It shows me that the only people they really care about anymore is the Gordon family. Lets not make any bones about this, they have done EXCEPTIONALLY well out of it.

Heartland - Routing AROUND tolls, cheap trucks, couldn't care less about drivers by putting in opti-idle....any word on what you are supposed to do if you get a ticket for trying to keep cool in PA,NJ,NY,NC etc when you have had a night run and sleeping during the day at 95 and then a friendly PA officer bangs on your door and tells you to stop idling? Funny I have never had a good answer to that from anyone. Sorry, but my corporate BS meter is hitting the red here with these guys. No APU's so you can have as Joseph said those lovely cheap truck, uncomfortable and plain cheap. The one word that seems to crop up from time to time with Heartland in my mind is CHEAP. Short miles and I have heard from other HTLND drivers previously that if you move a trailer across somewhere like Atlanta (could take more than an hour to get AROUND ATL) as they do not pay short haul (or did not someone correct me if wrong thanks!) you would be EXPECTED to do it for FREE (kind of illegal methinks????) CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP....

    Thank you and good night!

Yes chowick..I do agree and do not defend anyone here.. I do believe there is more to the reason for selling than we are being told and we will never be told.

Just a gut feeling I have and I dont believe money was the issue. I saw something in Larry as he strolled the parking lot by himself looking at all these smurf trucks with his daddy's name on them. Probably remembering his daddy teaching him how to drive in one of these smurf trucks.

I once had to close a business that I started. The culmination of 14 years of my life and several others who helped along the way.
When I locked the doors for the last time I walked thru and could hear all the sounds and see all that once went on here.
I thought of how many peoples lives were affected by events that were beyond my control. I wept.

I am not trying to paint the Gordons as saints here but.. and I could be totally wrong here.. the case has been made here that Gordon actually sold too cheap. Why?

Don't know .. but I was looking for a job when I came here and will be looking for one when I leave..

Forgive my ramblings.. this has been a long week and I am trying to make some sense of it all.

Nothing to forgave here. I might have to start looking again also. I been doing this for way to long to put up with the crap that hartless will be doing. When they start doing that I will start doing what I have to do also.

The opti idle alone would be enough for me to decide to clean out my truck. Next would be On Guard.

I work for a a private food ingredient company that's part of Conagra and were ¼ mile from Heartland's North Liberty HQ but I would never work for them. Haven't heard one good thing about them in the 10 years I've lived in Iowa either. As a business they're outstanding. Debt free and highly profitable. What was Gordon's net profit last year? I can't remember now but it seemed like Heartland made more last quarter than Gordon made all year? Another sad thing is that the wage scale on the west coast is pretty bad. Gordon didn't pay well either for west coast drivers. Amazes me that the midwest pays 6 to 8 cpm more. Heartland will no doubt raise some pay out there and most drivers will swallow it.

I went through two mergers when I was flying for a living. It never works out well for some employees. Unfortunately, I have scratched GTI off my Last Trucking Company list. I'm not prepared to deal with that uncertainty again, especially after having read some of the telecom comments. Pity, too. GTI was such a good company.

Sounds like the truck I drive. It's okay for 5 days, but definitely not for multiple weeks. What bad news...
