Well I just don't understand why I can't get dispatched on a Monday. Last week 1300 miles this week 1700. So all the drivers that said they get all these miles I don't know where because I haven't seen them. The last 3 weeks I have set all day Monday waiting on a load and I never get dispatched until Tuesday morning. It's not looking good guys. I got Christmas coming up and my checks are not where they should be. They also don't have per diem. And the federal government is really cleaning my clock.

    Lonesome Thanks this.

Sorry to hear that Smurf. Still waiting on my DAC. Started dropping apps anyway. Got an invite to orientation with Navajo after just dropping an app yesterday, waiting to hear back from Double J Transport (Jackson Wisconsin) and USA TRUCK. The recruiter from Navajo said the only thing showing on my DAC was a couple of incidents at Abilene (broken side view mirror, pulled fuel nozzle). That was two and a half years ago. Maybe there is a hiring freeze going on.

Stay away from Double J and USA truck. Believe me you don't want that headache. I've never had much use for Navajo since they left a female trainee stuck on top of a mountain and 5 degree weather during a snowstorm back in 2011. But that's just me. It might be a good fit for you. Just remember to ask for all the details before you get there. That's one of the things that I did wrong I was in such a rush to get back to work I really didn't investigate enough before I took the job.

From what I hear low pay and lots of sitting around. I hear they're dispatchers leave a lot to be desired.

These things don't sound like a reason to avoid Beacon. Beacon runs where I run. Every driver seems pretty happy.
You can supply your creature comforts with you truck stop loyalty points. Many reefer guys use leaf blowers rather than brooms.

Big G Express is a good company with lots of miles & nice trucks. Each one has an APU as well. They do drive I-81 back & forth to NE a lot, but you don't sit waiting for dispatches. You are pre-planned before you deliver.

Beacon leaves you sitting a LOT. I have seen ONE 2000 mile week in the 5 weeks I've been here. Right now I'm sitting in waterloo Iowa at the Pilot with a Target Distribution center load that was supposed to be delivered last night. However they forgot to send me the confirmation number with my load and now Target will not accept the load because I did not have the number. I have sent 2 Qualcomm messages and left 3 voicemails since 10 o'clock last night. My messages and no phone calls returned. Of course I have come to expect this that's how this company is run on the weekends. Guess who's not getting their #### today?? You can supply your own things for the truck. But a $300 trucker GPS places a big strain on a driver who is just starting a new job. Not to mention having a truck that has no space for fridge. If I was going to stay here I would buy a fridge if I had a place to put it. If you find a leaf blower that will blow 16 penny nails out of the floor please let me know. That's one hell of a leaf blower. Some drivers are happy here. Most of them are older guys who have been here a long time. And to be honest, some of them are used to the beast they know. I personally have seen a pretty bad turnover in the short time I have been here . I know the other guy I went through orientation with is not here anymore. And neither is a few of the drivers on met the first day here. If you would like a job here just let me know. I could probably talk them into giving you my truck.

You can buy a $50 car GPS until you can get a free truck GPS with fuel points, if you HAVE to have a GPS. You do have a driver rewards card with each chain don't you? The industry ran OK with paper atlas and phone calls for decades. A $20 wrecking bar & $20 broom works for pulling nails and sweeping out but I thought there were back issues going on. Add a cheater bar to the wrecking bar and you can pull nails without bending over. I haven't seen a sleeper truck without room for a 12 volt cooler. Even if you have to set it on the bunk while you drive and in the passenger seat while parked, there is room. Or leave it in passenger seat or on floor in front of passenger seat, if moving it is painful on your back.

When dispatched on this load did you call the customer on the drive to them and ask what info they needed from you? It would be good if you didn't have to do Dispatch's job, but if it keeps you from sitting all weekend I'd do it. Will you depend on Dispatch to tell you everything necessary on the next load? I wouldn't. Call the shipper/receiver and ask what they need to load/receive?

I'm not criticizing you. I'm trying to help you adjust to where you are working rather than change jobs each time something doesn't go like it should. One of the problems working for smaller companies is they are small and they don't have "military precision" and anticipate everything because they have seen everything 2,000 times over the last 20 years. Maybe Beacon isn't a good company, or maybe they are not a good match for you. However there are ways to make most of what you mention better, but that might require you making your life better and not waiting for the company to make your life better.
