Glad to here your training is going well. Keep us posted.

Your friend may need to call the corporate office on this one. I could not find anything on the web site about it. I would think if he passed the background check for the hazmat then maybe it won't be a problem hiring on. But that is just me thinking out loud.

Seems like things vary terminal to terminal around here so it is hard to answer your question.

Give the Kankakee terminal manager a call and talk to him. You will have to spend some time with a trainer but it will probably be local or day trips. If OTR you would stay in hotels.

As far as customer some are pull through racks where the customer does everything. Some are small customers that are very challenging to back into. There is one load in Brooklyn where you have to back onto the sidewalk between the wall of the building and signs and light poles. That sounds like fun. Just because its tanker work there are still pitfalls. Racks sometimes have lots of little pipes and things sticking out that you have to be careful of even with a pull thru.

The biggest difference between chemical tank and reefer is the way you are treated by customers. You also get paid hourly for your time loading and unloading.

No problem. Glad you are enjoying the thread. I try and keep it real. Most days are good but there are some bad ones. They can't all be zingers! There are times I just want to get on here and vent really bad but I don't want to come off as negative or as having a bad attitude. Overall Superior is a good company to work for. But it is trucking and there are some things that you just can't take out of trucking and would be the same no matter who you worked for.

Last week I ran out of Winder up to Greensboro NC and made a Monday morning delivery. Tank washed in Wilmington NC where they had a load on the yard for me going to Oxford AL. Ran that over and delivered it last Wednesday morning. I knew when I saw on the travel order to call Morrow terminal I was doomed, haha. They did not have any runs for me and I got put on the dreaded waiting list. Fortunately they had some local work for me the rest of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday which help salvage my check.

This week has been pretty good so far. I did the same load going out Sunday night to Greensboro NC for a Monday am delivery. Tank washed right down the road from the delivery and High Point had a pre-loaded trailer waiting for me so I grabbed it and got an hour up the road before I had to stop. Took it the rest of the way Tuesday to Bowling Green and delivered it Wednesday morning at 8 am. Got tank washed to Cincinnati where I spent the night that night. Got an empty trailer Thursday morning and live loaded right up the street and headed for Green Bay WI. Got all the way up there and parked it last night about 30 miles from the delivery. Got up this morning early and got the load off by 9:15 am and was tank washed to Markham IL.

Got off the clock around 2:30 pm. Doing a reset right now in the company hotel.. Gotta go down to Memphis on Sunday and grab a dedicated trailer and bring it back to Markham on Monday. I figure they will probably have a load for me by the time I get back to Markham, fingers crossed.

So what happened to that dedicated freight? Did Morrow lose an account?

One of the manufacturing places I was running dedicated freight to (Indiana), their business has slowed wayyyyyyy down and they are not getting the loads they were. They went from 3-4 loads a week down to 1-2 per week but mostly just 1 load. The other place, Virginia, has the normal slow down going on for this time of year so that is no surprise.

There is one guy out of our terminal that is pretty much the main dedicated driver for those accounts. So when things slowed down he has priority over that stuff since he has been doing it for the last 7-8 years. Sucks for me because that was working perfect for me and my situation. If it picks back up next year I should be back on it. Not holding my breath though given the state of the economy.

It may come back since we still have the account. I remember seeing much of the west coast snot loads dry up for a year or so out of our terminal. Running system all the time can burn you out quick. It is much harder work with the added pressure of finding places and learning plant procedures. It does get better as you go to more and more places and learn the ropes with them. Learning ropes can make for some bad days though.

Thought I'd give an update: I'm entering my 8th week of training incl Greer. Earlier this week, after navigating the hills on I-10 west of San Antonio with a loaded trailer and successfully delivering to the mine in Morenci..., my 2nd Trainer said he was going to release me because he feels I've met all aspects of the training criteria. He told our Terminal Mgr that he feels extremely safe with me driving. So, I went in Friday and talked to the Operations Supr and asked if he thought I was ready. He said its between me and my Trainer. He then went about finding me a truck. A little while later, my Trainer tells me he and I are scheduled on another load to Morenci AZ scheduled to leave Monday. I asked what had happened? He and Ken agreed I was ready to go solo. He said "what's one more week?" To me its alot with his impatience,...! Ya all might call me a woose, and that's okay. Again Friday, I'm rolling down the road with tears running down my face. I don't need the fear... I've been asking God for His provision and many people have been asking for the same for me. I'll make it through. I just don't understand. I do have alot to learn but as RD wrote sometime ago, he learned way more on his own than he ever did with his trainers!

I will grin and bear another week since I don't have a choice.

I am extremely grateful to be driving for Superior Bulk Logistics, and I'm grateful to those of you who have guided me along the way!
