My new experience with Gordon Trucking, post-buyout

I made the drop/hook at Walmart then ran over to make the pickup at International Paper. While I was there, I had a chat with a driver from another company who seems to know a lot about the Gordon/Heartland merger; then again, it seems everyone who's not an employee of one or the other does, too. So we had a pleasant talk and parted ways.

When I got back into the truck, I was happily surprised to find an email approving a $40 "bonus" for me. I called my DM to inquire about it and he said it was because this run I'm on is short (250 miles) and takes all day, so he and Bri asked for it. What a marvelous thing to do! I mean, I've been with the company a whole WEEK and they're having those thoughts about my well being. Pretty special, if you ask me.

When you have enough drivers quit this is what happens... however they no longer pay detention pay due to weather and no short haul pay as it used to be an automatic thing... now they do load bonuses sometimes to make you feel special but dont look for that to last...

I was asked today if I would give it a few more weeks to make up for the past shortfalls... not a chance I said

Wow. This bothered me enough that I re-logged in just to respond. I used to be a housekeeping supervisor in a resort and what you've said is not true.

The smell of smoke can be permanently eliminated within three of four hours using a professional OZONE machine. We did it all the time at the resort.

And this is what bothers me about the trucking industry - Why don't they stock professional ozone machines? Because they don't give a #### about the comfort of non-smokers. That's got to be the only reason.

Any amount of research as to how professionals remove cigarette odor would lead to what I've just revealed. Top resorts HAVE to have such machines and even some hotels and motels have them. SO WHY DON'T THE TRUCKING COMPANIES???

They don't like us non-smokers. The bias in the trucking industry in favor of smokers REALLY irks me.

Hey, maybe you could buy your own machine and then transflo your receipt for a reimbursement.

Somehow, my response disappeared, so instead of redoing it all, I'll just say a small can of Ozium and an open container of coffee grounds seem to have done the trick. My own, inexpensive, portable ozone machine!

Atlanta is one place I would not want to be, what with all the abandoned cars they have to move or join with owners. Hot 'Lanta ain't so hot right now.

And here I sit in the Mother Ship of Iowa for the first time. Nice facility, nice people, and I get inspected, fueled, oiled, AND washed...and maybe even get the DEF topped off; I'll see. I'm here to get the window washer repaired. I was first told to go to a truck shop in Cedar Rapids but that quickly changed and I'm glad it was. I get to see Heartland's headquarters early on. I must say I'm impressed.

There are half a dozen GTI trucks/trailers here, too. It's a bit surprising, but really shouldn't be, I guess. I'm #3 for the inspection bay, not including the one in it, so it will be a while, but no worries.
