I'm finally safely in a dock on Union City, Cali, offloading my wares. What a trip this has been. Lousy weather in Idaho and super weather in Nevada...until I got to Sparks, where I spent the night. It snowed and, well, to make a long story short, I had to chain to get over Donner Pass on I80. So I spent 1:45 throwing iron, and boy, wasn't it fun doing that with 60 or so of my closest friends, including one guy who wanted to buy ALL my chains for...well, an obscene amount. Of cash. But I resisted the temptation because I didn't want to stay in the chain up area a rich man.
One of the new chains I have is too large and I can't figure out a way to shorten it...no big deal, I guess. Until next time.
Which will most likely be soon. I have a preplan for a 2,500 mile trip back to Ohio! So much for getting "stuck" out here, but I'm not sure if Northern California traffic is worse than chaining over Donner Pass or not.

You should chain up on the flat parking area before you ever head up the mountain. It is a lot easier than getting mixed up with all the mess up top.
Calregon Thanks this. -
It's Friday and I'm in Ferney, Nevada, apparently a popular Gordon fueling spot. I'm done for the day, having rolled in here with 5 MINUTES on my 70. Wasted time, young man. But it's been a 24-hour period I don't want to repeat soon. I'm a whipped puppy and the bunk calls loudly to me, so I'll just say I chained going westbound up the Sierra to the receiver yesterday and I chained going eastbound with my load bound for Hebron, Ohio. I now have eight pairs of soaking gloves, two pairs of soaking shoes, a soaking jacket...and I left my pin puller by the road when I left the chaining area the first time. I have to buy a new one because trying to reach between dual wheels to meet a chain's hook and eye in slush at night is NO fun.
And I just learned that Pilot has discontinued my favorite coffee...Sumatra. Permanently. Once the on-hand stock is gone, it's gone. Not a great day. But I gain 9+ hours tonight so I'll make some headway tomorrow. -
Saturday morning and time to make the next leg of my journey eastward. Next stop, somewhere before Rawlins, Wyoming, since I only have about 9 hours on my 70.

I've made it to Salt Lake City and am now watching the Wyoming weather very carefully. I anticipate chaining, bit what I REALLY don't want to see is what I saw earlier: "I-80 closed in both directions between <> and <>." That would make me unhappy. I hope the Snow God needs a rest.

You're chaining too much.. in 5 years with gordon I only chained 3 times.. and that was in the first year...

I'm ready to complain about how hot it is.tow614 Thanks this. -
Fortunately TA/Petro has upgraded their coffee and seems they cleaned the machines in the process.
I tend to stop there or AMBESTs because I and can usually get parking and not get "LOVE TAPS" all night from folks that park by brail. -
Yes, but depends on the nature of the work. Did you fix the problem? Then if you have the receipt then ask for a P.O. With the amount and also explain how long it took to fix it ie: 1 or 2 hours. Your DO may issue you a P.O. for the cost of "equipment parts" and also toss you a few bucks for you time. Hope this helps.
