My new experience with Gordon Trucking, post-buyout

Oh. I heard a rumor this week while I was chaining over Donner. Did you know that Gordon was bought by Swift? Me, either. I asked where he got his info and the driver told me he read it on the Internet.

Well, it has to be true then. They can't put anything on the internet if it isn't true. Ri-i-i-i-ight.

But I'm glad Heartland is being so generous with their truck showers with us new Swifties.

So far, with the one exception of my first load, the assigned routing is what I would take anyway. I use it as a convenient way to write the long routing down. I just wish they would give us an in-cab printer.

But I would take truck wash bays first.

I agree. The pros about the buyout is more terminals/more parking and truck washes. Like I had said before. I'm on a wait and see basis. I haven't seen anything really get crazy. So I'm not going to. Cons to the buyout right now? More terminals to fuel at: less shower credits!

Heartland does fuel routing, not trip routing. And if your fuel stop is off route you just let dispatch know and they change it. But maybe the changes are slow to come in some things to get everyone on the same page.
As to the forced dispatch. Yea, it is. But you can say no.
I have turned down loads before just because I did not want to waste 2 days going 400 miles. Or I am tired since I was in the inspection lane and getting truck serviced most of the day, and they want me to run all night. Too tired to drive is always a valid excuse if you are tired. They will not force you to run.

The shutdowns can be a pain. I was stuck in Atlanta 2 weeks ago. Got in Monday night. Needed service Tuesday morning. Got done, but load did not pick up till 1700. So could not start clock. Snow came in at 1300, 285 shut down. Heartland did their shutdown around the same time as it was physically impossible to drive on the road, due to accidents.
I was stuck till Thursday and was not a happy camper.

yea, it is a large carrier. They are not for everyone. For some it is a step up. For some a step sideways. And for some a step down. Regions matter allot and lanes. Heck, regions and lanes are everything. And they will be changing a lot in the next year or so as contracts are redone. They now have lanes they are trying to mix and move. So it will be a process.
I am running FL GA and the fleet keeps growing. Now I think they may have too many drivers for the freight, but will have to see.

Apparently, that isn't in my DM's mindset yet. I was at the HTLD HQ getting service and was given a fuel solution that included a nearby Pilot. Not the HTLD yard I was in that had a dozen or more pumps. I wondered about it, but being the obedient company guy I am < coff coff > I went to Pilot. Maybe they needed to buy some fuel to make or increase their monthly allotment. Who knows...or cares.

So far, I haven't fueled with them yet. But this will be my second truck shower, so my thick towel is at the ready; I learned during the first one that my door has a really big leak somewhere. Not enough to let road noise in but big enough to let high pressure water in. So this time, I will be prepared!

Here's the sign outside the inspection bay where I'm sitting now. Nice!

And it's very hard to was a trailer without washing the truck.

The Heartland techs have begun working on my truck. Replace windshield? Can do. Level A service? Like the pros we are. Fill and/or replace liquids as needed? Of course. After that, the unit goes to TK to look after the APU issue that has popped up since the last time I regen'd it.

They have a rather extensive driver's lounge with several showers, washing machines and dryers, and three bunk rooms so a driver can sleep name bedroom on a break. Pretty nice, if you ask me. If everything works out, I should get legal rest before my departure after midnight, since I'm living on recap hours for a while. Then it's off to western Illinois (7 hours from here) then Iowa (2 hours from there) for two Friday deliveries.

My Smurf truck has not had a bath in a very long time. At least 9 months. For some reason they wont authorize truck washes nor reimburse drivers that wash them on their own dime. So my truck stays dirty.
