Arrived and making my delivery early. That's good news. I've also been watching road condition/closures on I70 west of Denver pretty closely for a couple of days. They've chained several times in several places, the Eisenhour Tunnel has closed several times, and the weather has been horrid most of the time.

    Whew.

And I am being pestered by an unusual flying creature not seen in the Midwest this time of year...a fly.

I'm parked at the nearby TA, completely out of hours until recap tonight, when I gain 8:46. Preplan is now for a Sunday delivery in Temple, TX...1370 miles. Not too shabby.

Up and at it for another journey east, this time to Temple, Texas, by way of the HTLD terminal in Phoenix. This will be the 4th one I've been to, and I'll finally get a chance to wash off this road grime and salt. I wonder how I will clean the engine since it's pretty nasty, too; I might. Just have to break down and pay for it somewhere along the line. But it will be nice to see smurfblue again. I do like this color, Mrs. Gordon.

One thought as I prepare to leave California. I lived here for almost 25 years and thought I loved it. As I ponder what the traffic and people and general condition of life is like the past day, I'm pretty sure I would never relocate here again. It's expensive and busy, and as I came down the mountain from the high desert of the Inland Empire yesterday, I saw something I had not seen in a whole:

    Smog Angeles.

Yup. That layer of smog that used to be visible clinging to the land. It still is. And I'm in it now.

So I get to the GTI Fontana yard, drop the empty in a VERY tight, full lot, and try to hook to my relay trailer...until I see the red gladhand lock. Checking with GTI Security, I learn the shop put it out of service. Before they closed. They reopen at 0700, so I get more sleep and the load gets a delay.

This is turning into quite the adventure. A root canal kind of adventure.

Made it to a Loves in West Texas on I-10. A very small town and pretty small truck stop; in fact, the Loves fueler backed up right in front of me, just ahead of the fuel lanes, to deposit his fuel in the ground. It's the first time I've seen one do it right in front of everyone. Normally, they have their own private parking space out of the way, but not here.

I also got a revised delivery time that I should make easily tomorrow. I'm glad for that. After that, who knows? The APU still doesn't work, no matter how many times I try the same things, hoping for a different result.

I would check their website, http://www.gordontrucking.com, or call their recruiters to ask.
