Thought we were going to need an intervention there for a moment...

Does Gordon pay you to look for empty trailers or is this a service you offer for free as a driver?

Does Gordon require you to share your truck when you're not using it? (Slip seating?)

    Thank you for your help

Not only is it free, in Indy I pointed out that if a tag were hung on a good empty, every driver all day long would not have to get out and look at each loaded trailer until he found an empty if there was one.

I was told it had been brought up before and Gordon wasn't interested. Why? Your wasted time is free, that's why. Free. Your time is free...

Doesn't matter how many drivers walk the yard.

    Your time's free.

    knuckledragger Thanks this.

If I recall the 'official' policy was that if your truck sat for 2 days someone else might head out with all your gear. I think if you look around you'll find some stories about this. I lived far enough away didn't have to park at the yard. So they'd have to come get it.

They do that, too. One time I was 'directed' to drive a filthy truck. Told 'em fine, gonna take some time to square it away, not leaving in a trash heap. All my gear was over in my truck at Cummins. Asked our mechanic if there were a spare blanket around. He's seen one in a dumpster. Sure enough. Basically, a guy's whole truck was there. Blankets, pillows, jeans, T-shirts, new Carhartt jacket, you name it.

Suddenly dawned on me. Trashy truck and all someone's gear in dumpster. It had been recovered, probably from home somewhere.

Nobody leaves their new Carhartt jacket or throws it in a dumpster.

Truck was taken from somebody. Probably in the night.

Are you kidding? Where'd you turn it in? They'd send an Indy newbie over from far enough away (to Pontoon Beach, for example, if you homed in Indy) as a ride-along with another driver.

Let the newbie clean it up. His truck now.

Newbie gets to clean it up for free!

    Welcome to Gordon Trucking.

You think I'm kidding? Not! Yeah, they'd send it out for detail if the newbie has the juevos and knows whom and how to complain about it. Most don't. When your Fleet Manager says, "And I think it's been detailed," promise you it's not.

And they'll 'let you' drive it over and wait, for free, while your truck gets detailed. Indy used TNT while I was there but mostly avoided and left cleaning to the driver.

But they'd wash it 1x. From then on, keeping the exterior up is on you.

    Really. I'm not kidding.

Depends on what you mean by "pay you to look for empty trailers." It's almost never an issue because most of the vans are drop/hook. Plus there are now Heartland trailers that can be pulled.

No slip seating on the OTR fleet. I don't know about a local fleet or even if there is one. They have some old run-out day cabs from a previous company purchase (Buske) that are being retired; they might all be gone by now.
