Denali, if your truck is at Freightliner or Cummins for more than a couple days, Gordon will call and insist you come in and drive a spare truck, run local, paid mileage. From Indy to Terre Haute, Greencastle, Seymour.
Really. That 'spare' truck can be another guy's ride. Or a trashed out turn-in.
And they'll tell you it's required. I believe there's even wordage in the drivers manual, specifies whether you can go home if truck's going to be in shop for a while and that you must come in and drive a loaner if asked.
The fat weekend dispatcher called it 'clean up' work. Did it once and decided to never do that again. By the way, I literally heard him tell another dispatcher to let a driver who just arrived in Green Bay, to let him sit since he didn't call in fast enough on arrival. Fact. Made that statement to her right in front of me.

I have not had to do a trailer hunt yet. I went from Lathrop to Sacramento one time to get an MT and was paid the miles. Any other time there were no MTs around I was told to Bob Tail to the shipper.
