OH... OK... NOW it's making sense... lol

The only image I could get for that round pin was to screw it into the place where the current stock antenna is located but then none of the mounts I could see would work on the vertical placement of the "perch"... And I just could not make that work in my newbie head... LOL

OK... (using a fresh and hopefully corrected image in my head) ... So I could get the little short rod/perch and use it to screw into the mounting brackets of the mirror "replacing" the one bolt (using a star shaped tool) that is already grounded with the ground wire .

This will give me a place to mount the Wilson 2000 as well as ground my antenna.

By doing this, then I don't need to use the extra large mounting brackets on the large mirror tubing of the Volvo mirror mounts and avoid needing to run a separate ground wire from the antenna to that one grounded bolt.

Then I look for that weatherized grommet to run my cable into the cab of the truck thus avoiding running it between the door and door jam of the truck... Looks neater and protects the cable from crimping as the door opens and closes.

Am I seeing it correctly now??? :)

Oh, and then I completely remove the stock antenna from the drivers side so as to avoid creating an SWR issue from having the two antennas too close to each other.

The now solo stock antenna on the passenger side will now handle all the am/fm/tv signals.

10 4 you got it, the tool you need is called a Star type driver set 7 piece, they sell in any truck stop for about $10.00.

    Oh, and the SWR meter...

1.) does it stay "inline" or just for tuning?

2.) there are one and two meter setups, they seem to be fairly close in price... Get the two meter option for a few extra bucks or all I need as a newbie is the base SWR Meter?

I don't believe like others do, that your built in meter is incapable, of achieving the lowest swr (although it's reading may be off by a few tenths). Spend the money once your done on a tech with equipment to read this properly and make the final adjustment... $10-15. Otherwise if you like the piece of mind a $30 RatShack will do. In my experience leaving inline only causes headaches.

I have to agree with the Dude1969, Ive used my built in meter on the radio several times and it is close agreement with my radio shack meter, so I trust it, plus I run stock so if my meter is reading 1.5 and it really is more like 1.7 or could really be 1.2 Im not going to sweat it, and if I do choose to use my radio shack meter(eg. Just got into a new truck or changed attenna) I dont leave it inline I will do random checks with radio meter.

I agree. Find a reputable tech that won't clip your modulation limiter and plop down the $40 or so to have him tune you're radio and antenna in one shot then you'll be done with it - getting out and sounding good.

The Swing Don't Mean A Thing.

Get it tuned for the best and cleanest signal, a good tech will do that. The swing doesn't help.

The worst radios I own(ed) are those export radios and 10 meter rigs that are actually CBs, real ham radios don't have 40 channel selectors..
