My numbers as an O/O leased to Crete

    I read this whole thread and would like to share something with you that might help your bottom line.
    I fixed a Honda EU2000 on the back/side compartment of an expediter truck for a fella.
    He uses a ceramic disc heater that runs on 110V, just like the ones you can get at Wal Mart. He runs a regular 5000 watt A/C made for a house, placed in a rear window that was removed and a steel plate with foam insulation and paneling put in its place. It looks pretty good, you cannot really tell it is there. In a big truck with a tall sleeper, you could do a nice job putting the thing right through the back wall.

    He loves it. He runs 1 gallon of fuel a night. (7 to ten hours out of one gallon, running the A/C through the night. A little less running the heat during the cold spells.) I think the cold fuel economy going down is due to his block heater running on cycle, which is 750 watts of draw at 60%. He runs the heater on low and a laptop along with his LCD TV and his cooler...and the Honda handles it.
    He has a 80.00 kit to put a 5 gallon can on the side of it for 4 nights to 6 nights of running without messing with it.
    He says that the worst part of it is pulling the start cord at night when he stops. In the rain, he says it can be a pain.
    At under a 1,000 for everything, this could really save you. If nothing else a TON of wear on the engine in your rig.
    The EU2000 is VERY quiet. They do not stink badly either. Barely any vibration, since it is mounted on rubber insulators.
    Just a thought for you. Can you pull a rip cord each night?

    The escrow on either one is for the life of the LOAN with no cap. It is ment for all maintainance/tire issues, taxes are separate. Once the loan is paid off you can withdraw the escrow. However, I recomend leaving atleast $4K-$5k in the company escrow to help pay for tires through the national account, or for any road service breakdowns. You will save money by letting Crete pay for tires/breakdown repairs and then taking it out of your escrow. Crete will usually get a sizeable discount and pass it on to you.

    No. There are two pay opyions, 1) sliding scale or 2) flat rate. I recommend option 1. On option 1 you will pay for base plates the first year ($1558). Then each year after that they give you a bounus that pays for the plates as long as you run 90k miles. Option 2 they pay for plates. However, the extra money made on option 1 more than makes up the difference the first year.

    Thanks again for posting your numbers. I have a question regarding how you separate Truck Maintenance and Truck Supplies. What makes up the number for the truck supply account?

    Many things can be put un the "supply" category. As a general rule, gloves, tools, things used it to clean the truck, cb radio, i.e. items used to help you do your job.

    Ok, what if ya got rid of it.You could make more hauling this stuff as a company driver than you are making as an O/O.We could start you off at.44cpm plus $10 trip # pay and $35 O.D. pay and on a 1000 mile trip you are lookin at .485cpm.No payment, no fuel,no....well you get the picture.Look,I'm not a recruiter...but I've been where you are....I pulled for CCC for 10 yrs....great outfit,but I wanted something more.I came over here without a days worth of heavy haul exp and now I wouldn't pull anything but equipment.This is easier than flatbed or household,they aren't taking o/o's at this time but are hiring co drivers.I'm not trying to make anything off you.....you don't even know my truck #,just trying to help is all.......Best of luck.

    Thanks for the info Keen, but I have no desire to be a company driver. Plus, I don't think Keen goes to my area of the country very often.
