Don't feel too bad. I hear one of our "new hires" from "driving school" dropped a fully loaded chemical trailer on it's nose at the shipper's plant (Rubicon) the other day.:biggrin_2555:
Apparently didn't have the 5th wheel hooked properly and forgot to check.:biggrin_25513:

Wonderful.... as if Rubicon wasn't hardazz enough already. Now we're all going to be treated like rookies if we haven't lost a major customer already.:biggrin_25510:

I think getting out and physically checking that your fifth wheel jaws are locked and that there's no gap between your fifth wheel and trailer should be beaten into peoples heads in truck driving school, that's a senseless accident, easily avoided!

I said all are non-dot..no police on the scene 2 of them are minor backing accidents 1. I scrap a water tanker backing into a spot in a truck stop this was 3yrs. ago so i called it into safety 2. Was another minor backing at the shipper scraping the r/s of the bumper so i called it into safety. 3. Swap out a trailer in a drop yard was called by safety 3 days later & was told there was damage to the top of the trailer & since i was the last one with that trailer i was being charged with a " equiptment preventible " i tried to fight it threw hire right but i still was left with it on my DAC. & number 4. While on home time parked the tractor across the street from my house under a tree the tree branch broke strikeing the top of the tractor ( at the time the weather was really bad rain very high winds doing damage all over the place) yeah my fault for parking under a tree. But i was charged with another equiptment preventible accident i also tried fighting that one also.. so there you have it all my preventibles that are on my DAC

Believe me, this rookie has heard this for weeks before being "turned loose".

Bad set of circumstances; Rubicon's "yard jockeys" have a habit of dropping spot trailers 2 to 4 inches higher than a 5th wheel. Rookie likely excited and nervous about his first solo. Easy to happen and could have been worse. Very easily could have been much worse.

But, that trailer is now unusable until it's outer skin has been taken off and the inner hull checked for cracks, etc. That ain't cheap.

At least there was no puncture/spill apparently. And he didn't drop it on the highway or the RR crossings.

Rookies, Newbies and Wannabe's..... this is why I tell you to NOT go looking at Hazmat tank for your first job. A simple mistake can cost you your career. :biggrin_25513:

well tell the company, about each one when you apply exactly as it happened. As for the noob with the dropped front tank there are some people who just never learn to look at their 5th before raising the landing gear. You are already outside the truck the 5th is right there it takes a second to look.

In a situation where you have multiple accidents. I'd agree with getting some refresher stuff.
