I drive 7/4-7/3 and grossed about $31k last year. Roehl's health insurance is lousy, and I'm not a cheerleader for Roehl. I will say especially with CSA2010 coming they are really staying up on the maintenance of their equipment. Most of their trucks are apu equiped and I have to say I'm spoiled.

Even with a four year degree there isn't much that pays what trucking does. Years ago I went to a hiring seminar for Schneider and the recruiter pointed something out that still applies. If you want a job that pays over thirty thousand a year and is always hiring you have two choices, healthcare and trucking. If you are politically connected maybe you can get a cushy beurocratic job.

As for a career in driving being only for those out of options or without the intelligence to do anything else consider, Jesus was a carpenter, James Adams a farmer, Aristotle and Plato were both teachers, Peter a fisherman, Abraham Lincoln was a self taught country lawyer. To equate intelligence and judgement with occupation is at best insulting.

I notice that the quality of new drivers is getting worse. I believe it comes from a lack of pride in becoming the best professional one can possibly be. To become a true professional driver you have to watch and listen to drivers with more experience than yourself. Even now I still pick up tips and help from other drivers. Let me share something I do. I listen to whatever someone else says, if I can use it I do, if I can't I've at least given someone else the courtesy of listening to what they had to say.

Interesting thread to find. Wonder if this guy is still around. It's amazing what you find when sitting all day with nothing to do.
