Bones, I've looked around the forum and can't find a best place to ask about home time. You've done some driving, so I'll ask you. I'm thinking this my be a dumb question, but here it goes.. Firstly, let me say I don't have kids, spouse, dog or even house to worry about. So home time is NOT a priority for me in the beginning. But...seven days on and one day off...almost seems kind of pointless. What in the h3)) can a person do in 24 hours? My parents live in NoGA, like I said before, so I will be crashing with them if possible. But seriously, do most people just get a motel room nearby? or what? Can that hometime be out in Bugtussle Texas?...if a person wanted that. Does hometime have to be spent in the same place every time? Say I was on the road for three weeks and had three full days off...could I get those days in...say...Vegas? The Berkshires? Panama City Beach? Wherever?

Depends on your fleet manager, really. At Werner, one FM let me request off wherever I wanted, and others demanded I go only to my home of record.
Either way, your dispatcher will help you get home, but he'll try to get you a load on that direction to make the company money at the same time.kiwi23 Thanks this. -
Also, you will be taking more than 24 hours off at a time, and in most cases, home time starts at midnight of the day after you get home, assuming you get there later in the day.
Poison, ask any question you like. Hundreds of cool dudes here who'll help.quetzalcoatl, Kutina and sinker Thank this. -

If you read through these two threads, most of your questions will be answered.
Yes, you can take hometime wherever you like in the lower 48, including Toadsuck AR - and you don't have to go to the same place. It's pretty basic... you tell your FM where you want to be, he arranges (it's entered into the computer) a load, you run the trip and deliver, drop the trailer where you're told, and bobtail wherever it is you're going. Reverse the process on the way out. We do demand that you honor your projected time of availability. You're out a minimum of 3 weeks, you can take a maximum of 4 days at a stretch - or one.
