Seems like it’s all about the rate. When one raises rates they loose some customers until the next carrier raises theirs then they come back. Estes got little bit slow during rate increase time every year for a bit.LtlAnonymous and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this. -
@McUzi wait til you deliver cases of water, paper, tile or threadmills that need to be assembled. Sometimes customer would ask you to put the freight all the way to their garage and expect you to pull it on your own while their driveway sits on a hill.
If you politely refused and explain to them that you will do a curbside delivery some of them will throw fit and tell ya how they will call corporate or that the shipper told them that you will assemble their freight and take the trash.

Oh yeah. I dealt with that at FXF before I went to line. I generally didn’t and still don’t mind accommodating people as far as I can so long as they don’t approach me as a peasant or as a dumb truck driver. I generally do enjoy accommodating people.
After all, LTL doesn’t manufacture anything, so service should be a priority.MACK E-6, Gearjammin' Penguin, Texas_hwy_287 and 2 others Thank this. -
Thank God I've never done home deliveries. There's only so much I could take in return for being home every day. Lol
Texas_hwy_287, jtaran06 and McUzi Thank this. -
I don't care what the shipper, the salesman or some nebulous "They" told you. I'm the one delivering your shipment and they're not. I have the equipment and capabilities I have, and that's it. If you don't want to work with me, your shipment can go right back where it came from.
As for "calling corporate...?" Bwahahaha!! Go for it, Karen, I could use the laugh.Texas_hwy_287, LtlAnonymous and McUzi Thank this. -
If the driveway is paved and flat, or I can get the truck IN the driveway if it’s gravel, I’ll do what I can for somebody, and most do appreciate it. That’s another reason why I run where I do. They’re a different class of people than the population of the Washington suburbs.jmz, Gearjammin' Penguin, BigDog Trucker and 4 others Thank this.

My typical week has that many miles in 5 days.
Gearjammin' Penguin, McUzi, Texas_hwy_287 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Even without a level driveway I don’t mind. The blue collar houses generally are more appreciative or willing to help get their freight off the truck.Gearjammin' Penguin, Texas_hwy_287 and MACK E-6 Thank this.

One can usually judge whether or not the homeowner is willing to help by what’s parked in the driveway, and/or what manner of bumper stickers are on it.Gearjammin' Penguin, McUzi and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this.
