The way I also see it and understand the current contract, full rate is just north of $26. My current health insurance alone is $173 a week for my family. On a 40 hour work week, that amounts to $4.325 an hour off the top of my current rate. The savings of that alone to ABF's top rate amounts to a $2 an hour raise for me currently.

I am surprised they don’t make more than that. If they are like the rest of the country you would get plenty of OT to help make more. I imagine you could still make a respectable living and be home every night. They are definitely a job most people retire from.

I actually expected it would be somewhere in that range to begin with, I've always associated the trade off of Cadillac benefits to come with a slightly lower wage, but even still the math on a 40 hour week puts their rate equal to rate after benefit costs are deducted from the likes of FXF and such.

I initially tried to pursue UPS parcel about a month ago. I was so excited. The posting I applied for made zero mention of temp/seasonal status, and the application didn't have the typical "Acknowledgement of Seasonal Status" form to digitally sign before submitting as it had in the past. Once I got to the phone screen from the recruiter, they were very clear that it was a seasonal position, no benefits and no representation even after paying the $800 something initiation fee. So, that avenue is out.

 

Pay is lower than non union but the benefits make up for it.

 

Parcel would be better than Abf.

 

Only reason I am pushing him to Abf is because of his son and the great benefits we have.

 

I agree with you. In my opinion they are the best option for freight. I know some of the non union guys make more hourly but the total package probably is better at ABF. The pension alone is worth a lot.
