What's the following distance number? I'm at 4 seconds or more average before your safety score degrades.

I can’t remember but I don’t have to worry about it no more. I’ve moved on from Saia. It was a good job they’ll leave you alone. But just the hidden stress of always looking at the camera out the corner of my eye every time I hit a bump made me leave. If you’re doing something when you hit a bump they’ll talk to you. Don’t have a cell in your hand cause it’s almost an instant termination or a final warning. I work with a company now that has cameras but they don’t even bother or care about the camera unless you get in an accident. That’s how it should be.

I don't remember the actual number, but if you're travelling at anything less than 5 or 6 seconds, you aren't driving safely.

And we would still have drivers at FxF who would moan and complain about being "restricted" to 2 seconds following distance for over 3 minutes straight before triggering a video.

God I remember those drivers, usually ones that cried “everyone cuts me off”, “these trucks are so slow if I slow down anymore I’ll be going backwards” or other silly excuses.

Good luck maintaining that city driving. If I leave that big of a gap, cars jump over in front of me and cut the following distance. I don't think 6 seconds is even possible here during the day. Even running 10 under the speed limit, a line of 4 wheelers will be switching lanes in front of you.

If I may ask, exactly what led to your decision to jump ship?

Just no consistent work. Too hit and miss hours wise. Can’t get any maintenance done on the truck, and the past two days I’ve had 10 hours total. Was the slowest summer of my life. Ended not taking the Saia gig though. Didn’t even take the interview

I didn’t think I really needed to say that figure was more for highway driving but I guess I do.

If you’re doing 10 under the limit, how often are you finding cars taking that space and ALSO staying at 10 under?

90% of my driving has been city driving the past couple years. And all of my time under AI surveillance has been city driving.

Also, speed limit of 60, traffic is flowing 50-55. If I run 45-50 cars will jump over nonstop in the big gap to get ahead 50 feet and then slam on brakes which causes everyone following them to slam on brakes. Which then causes them to drop to 40-45 which slows me down at 105k lbs and try and speed back up over the course of a mile all while this happens over and over endlessly until 8-9pm when traffic finally ####s off.

Best I've been able to do is average 3.5 seconds following distance because of being cut off by petulant 4 wheelers trying to get 2 cars ahead of all the other cars. Which at least it's better on the highway than city streets where I'm on mileage pay despite 7 miles of driving taking 45 minutes at .60cpm with a heavy ### fuel tanker and oblivious cagers not realizing a sideswipe will kill them, me, and a dozen others nearby.
