sportsterbob was it the 700 or the 710 that had the bubbles? and did all 3 of them you had have bubbles? I'm about to plunk down $399 for a 710 and I don't like the sound of this.

Let me kill this rumor in the bud. There are no "bubbles" in the TND. What he is referring to is the THIN plastic screen protector it is shipped with. You can leave it on or take it off. It does not affect the screen at all.

If you leave it on - it is just like a screen protector that comes on a cell phone. Simply work the air out by pressing towards the end.

    See Pictures.

Again - There are no "bubbles" in the TND screen. The actual screen is hard plastic.

    Thanks,
    Mark

So, the girl behind the counter is the main source of all rumors? She is a clerk not privy to anything that Rand McNally does with their products. Did you ask for the Manager to verify this "recall" that the clerk is aware of? Did you go to any other stores and ask them? What is this Love's store number?

She said it twice so that makes it correct? Funny now you have the "bubbles" too. How about a picture of this "bubble"?

See pictures of what a screen looks like. It is solid film and solid plastic.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Kwantz You need to get off this age thing. It is annoying to those of us who are over 50 and quite literate with computers and electronics.

You are now benefiting from the things we did 20, 30 even 40 years ago.

I have a few of these units. There is NO WAY bubbles can get under the screen. Now, if you use a screen cover or similar (like on a cell phone) then by all means.

But the display is hard plastic. It's simply not possible to have bubbles.
Charging issues appear to be the only concern and Rand is addressing this.

All of the TND are solid models that work very well. If you do not disable all of the POI features, it can take minutes to calculate a long route. Turn them off and it quickly shows you the route to your destination....

Dieselboss and Mark Kling Thank this.

    What does POI stand for?

We have a Garmin gps for our car and wonder how we lived without the thing. Now that we are going into trucking there is no way we are not going to work without a gps. I think the Rand McNally one is the better one out there for truckers, but it's too bad they didn't partner with Garmin because Garmin makes a solid piece of equipment.

oh ok.. what would be a point of interest?

another question... is it worth getting the 710 over the 510? we went to go look at them both at the Pilot and that screen on the 710 is huge! I'm thinking it will be better to get the 510? I think the 710 has just one extra feature over the 510.
