Truck stop, bank, resturant, gas station, Shopping center, etc, etc. Usually some sort of business.

The 710 has these additional features. They both run the same software.

710 - HD screen, Calender, Notepad, predictive traffic (past historical traffic patterns).

Usually it is a personal preference - 5" or 7".

    Thanks,
    Mark

Helps if you never been in a city before and want to see what would be the best time to either drop/pickup. It may allow you to beat rush hour traffic by leaving a little earlier/later.

For instance - Atlanta, GA usually starts about 6:30am whereas Charlotte, NC usually starts about 7-7:30am for traffic.

    Thanks,

Many guys I know find the 5" the perfect size and the 7" a bit large for the
    front windshield.

Personally it is a "personal" choice.....:biggrin_25519:. They are both excellent units.

I have a bunch of 4"-5" screens on my other GPS units. Recently got the 710 and LOVE the larger screen mainly cuz its easier to enter info as you are driving down the road. Mine is mounted on my dash...if you are putting it on your windshield, I could see it being a bit big.

The "sharp curve" and "steep grade ahead" warning do need to be separate options to turn on and off separately though. I like the hill warning, but was about to huck it out the window with all of the sharp curve ahead warnings driving through Oregon!

Other feature I would like to see...distance to state border. Works one way with the mile markers, going the other way I found myself looking for that info a few times. (namely how long till I was outta California and could go faster than the warp speed of 55!)

You can turn off under main screen/truck info/warnings. I think the two are tied together in the maps. I will check.

CA does not have mile markers for the entire state. They go by county mile markers and are slowly changing over.

You can go to the map screen when in a route, open up the turn by turn list, go to the bottom and hit highway view. It will tell you how many miles by freeway for each state you are going thru.

    Thanks,
    Mark

At 56 I'm pretty tech savy and have no problems whatsoever with my electronic devices.
I have a 510 in my truck and have found it to be a very useful tool in spite of the fact that I sometimes laugh at the way it wants me to go because I know a better way.

If I can't make my TND go crazy at least once a day....I'm off my game!:biggrin_25523:

Rand Makes a solid piece of equipment as well from what I've seen...The 510 is as solid as a rock!

While I agree that both are solid units, I prefer the 510 to the 710 because the 710 is like having a stinkin' big screen TV on my dash!
I just want directions...I don't wanna watch Sanford and Son reruns.:biggrin_25523:

Got the 510 today and I'm playing around with it now... one of the things I don't like right away is that on every screen the 'return' button is in a different location! so if I have to go back a few screens I'm hitting the thing up here, down there, up here again lol. On my garmin it's in the same spot on every screen, and you can even press and hold to take you back to the main screen (super nice feature imo)

For the size of the screen the unit itself is a bit chunky, and the window holder thingy is huge.

The plastic pen in the back ... -???? I can't even get it out lol.

I love the tutorial and faq/tips that you can select (when the warning screen comes on, before you hit 'agree') I went through that and it helped a lot.

As for the way it actually works, I'll have to wait and see once I get in a truck!

Should I send in the product registration card?

Does anyone know why it comes with an extra fuse/light looking thingy?

The return button icon has been noted.

The suction cup is oversized for more holding power.

You can send in the warranty card. It will register you in the system.

The extra fuse is for the end of the DC adapter in case you blow the fuse. It will unscrew.

    Thanks,
    Mark
