I first school in Sellersburg IN. was cheaply maintained and had poor range/road instructors. I am now in Indianapolis. It is well maintained and have learn more in a week than the two weeks in Sellersburg (who said my co-signer was not good enough 3 days before testing). So heres a run down:
Sellersburg ...........vs......... Indianapolis
you pay ...........................1 yr contract
1/4 inch info to study........ 1 inch info to study
3 truck on range/1 street ...up to 10 on range/4 street
price same
Needless to say it was worth it to me contract or not to get to a school who cares enough to hire people who care if you get a CDL, take care of their equipment, and have a real restroom! Please don't ask about the last statement. I went to Sellersburg because it was 20 miles from the house. I had a good classroom instructor but the range/street guys were awful. Anytime I am driving no instructor should grab the wheel and jerk it towards phone poles and release.
Leaving you trying not to kill all in the truck because he thought all four drivers in the truck each turn driving, was to close to the double yellow. My advice is, don't choose Sellersburg and if you do stay clear of the guy who name rhymes with Matt.
My second driving school compared to my first

I got my CDL A 12-31-2008 and report to USA the 12th of Jan. I can say without a doubt I feel ready and have the basic skills from this school to operate safely a big truck.
Anyone considering a school east of the Mississippi , at least look at C-1 in Indianapolis. I had a tough instructor that got me where I needed to be. I passed PTI -1 (did it in the dark missed one shock), no points on straight back, offset, or parallel, -3 points on street getting adjusted to gearing.
I feel good about my overall experience at the school. Hope the freight comes back and a long haul till retirement age at last. -
Good luck to you John out of Indiana!! How do you feel about USA? I got a pre-hire from them but didn't follow up with them 'cause I went a different direction.

They picked me up and while not my first choice. I will work the same for them as any other. I understand lately they are cutting drivers but they backed my school loan for a year contract.
If they let me I will fulfill my contract and say thank you. If not TMC is still calling my phone off the hook. -
Best of luck in your new line of work.

I went to C-1 in Indy too, it was a good school.
Good luck to you, try your best to get along with your trainer, it's only 4 weeks.
