I park at truck stops all the time when I'm hauling hazmat. I'm kind of hazy with the parking rules but IIRC, you can't park near tunnels, downtowns of major cities, and on/off ramps. Truck stops and rest areas are good.
-
Truck stops are considered safe parking, not to be confused with a safe haven. Shower as often as you like.
I messed up and took 17 to Chesapeake VA out of Auroa today. Should anyone else do that while hauling HAZMAT, the fix is to take exit 13A on 664 to get to 58W which turns into 460. That's around 70 miles to exit 3 on the 295 east of Richmond. A lot of 45 mph zones in there.
The better fix is to do 33, 17, 264 to 95 out of Aurora like I did last time. Hate being in new guy mode. Could have made it north of Baltimore today, but oh no, I'm stuck at the 104 eating Dennys tonight.
Rolling at 0230. Stay safe y'all. -
You make it out of the Northeast yet?
This is a pretty good test for a first year driver. Mine was Atlantic Paste Co. Brooklyn NY my first 3 months solo.Rugerfan Thanks this. -
Before you go there study the directions to Keasby. Its an Express Tank Wash Superior uses that is a bit tricky to get to the first time. The entrance is actually underneath the Golden State Parkway Bridge which is off limits to big trucks. You have to drive under the bridge towards the water and it looks like someplace you don't want to take a big truck. If you miss the turn you wind up in a congested area that's hard to turn around in. Coming out its easy to miss the left turn on Smith street because it looks like GSP on ramps.

Home having a yum and coke right now.
The pump at the place in Southington CT is slower than molasses left out in January. The guy said screw it, shut it off and sent me headed back with 800 gallons to the tank farm in Aurora. Yeah, I get paid loaded for that. Lol
The other place up there was quick but backing in was fun. Come to think of it, both were uniquely challenging to back into.
Rode by the accident on the NJ Turnpike. That backed us up for a long while. Told my dispatch I thought the trucker had to have died. Reminded my of an IED strike. Reports said he rolled it, but it looked like he drove right into a tree by the 8 on the Pike. RIP trucker. -
Yuck. Glad I didn't have to go there. This was an out and back. I dropped a load of acid and then picked up dirty stuff about 15 miles away to bring back to Aurora.
Got just over 1300 loaded and about 250 empty along with the usual accessory pay in what turned into a 4 day trip. Loading went over at the second place so that was just additional pay.wsyrob Thanks this. -
Home for a couple of days. The truck I've been in is getting tossed and I'm getting a Mack; not a new one, but still an upgrade.
The Mack is coming in from the shop either today or tomorrow, so I'll probably do a couple of easy out and backs on Thursday and Friday. Yeah, a lousy paycheck next week, but getting upgraded a Mack is worth it.
The truck I've been in had little power and could barely pull moderate hills. -
You getting an automatic or one of the older 10 speed manuals?
I like mine now that I am getting used to it. Sure is easier in traffic jams not having a clutch. -
Getting an older 10 that will be changed out for a new 2018 automatic next year. I sure do look forward to the automatic in traffic.
How do they do pulling the hills?scythe08 Thanks this.
