Layover pay at SPCR works like this:
Anytime you sit over 14 hours away from your home terminal you go on the clock and are paid for the next 10 hours. I turn it in in 15 min increments. That's significant because there are a lot of loads with easy delivery windows where you can pick up an hour or 2 just by keeping the left door closed. That adds up.
My experience with the system is most of the time you will not be able to drop loads for local guy deliveries unless they are swamped and you can solve a problem for them. It never hurts to call and gives you an opportunity to start establishing a relationship with that dispatcher. More often than not if they need you to drop a load to run another they will call you. Otherwise you run things from start to finish.

Getting unload in MT Holly and then rolling on back to Wilmington. Not sure what's up for the rest of the week.

Got my truck assigned the other day. It's an International and it sure shifts different than the Mack. Took a day to get used to pushing the rpms so much higher to float em.
Will train in it for another week or two before being released. Off on a run to Valspat in High Point, NC. We stopped about 50 minutes short to hold up a bit. Our appointment is a couple of hours away.
All in all, it's going well, just wish the training was behind me. Felt like last week was somewhat wasted since I need mountain training and we went to Pasadena TX, which didn't meet any training requirement that I can think of.
Being an older retired military guy, I can put up with about anything. Of course, being a former soldier and current trucker, I'll gripe about nearly anything.Last edited: Oct 12, 2017

1400 RPMs is the sweet spot in those old prostars. Valspar is only a few miles from the High Point terminal so if necessary you could go there as well. Not a lot of parking space at that Valspar plant. I dropped a load on the yard last night. A local guy is delivering it this morning. Scott said yesterday they are waiting for some expected loads to get called in so I am off today.Mortarmaggot Thanks this.

We've had to push 1900 to float. Anything else needs to be clutched. Not sure why that is but I'll pick our mechanic's brain about it.
They are unloading MEK from us and then we'll head right back to Wilmington. Doing some inner plant work in Aurora NC tomorrow and then taking a 3 day before taking my truck into the system for training.
Btw, thanks for loaning Stephanie to our shop ....she wants to transfer now...lol. -
I don't float them as much as most especially loaded. 1900 does seem a little high though.

My pro star used to love to be pushed 1800-1900 also

It sounds and feels strange after training in the Mack. It took a bit of getting used to.

The Grand Rapids delivery needed steam so we dropped it at High Point and brought an empty back to Wilmington. We brought another empty back the next day, dropped it and picked up the heated load at High Point to head out again. We'll unload it tomorrow night, actually the next morning at 0130.
Spending the night in the Days Inn at Jackson OH.
