This year I only paid $1,175 in self employment tax on $42,804 of operating income, no federal, no state ... that's a tax rate of .027%. That operating income gets knocked down by the per diem deduction, business use of personal items - such as cell phone, laundry, showers, hotels - and sundry items such as scale tickets, parking, truck washes and the occasional off the books fuel purchase ... etc
Swiftheadcase, I have enjoyed reading your thread. I know your journey from the front seat. My dad bought his first truck through a lease program through a company called MDR, they have shut down but Dad stills has the truck. Pops did a great job with his as he was very business minded, he made great money during his lease and it set him to own 10 trucks now.
