We have a censor on all our computers.

Other than that: We trusted our kids. It worked with our oldest daughter. It didn't with our son. We pulled the pc from his room and pass worded every computer in the house. He didn't like it at all, neither did we. We tried trust again, and again pulled the freedom. We put spyware on his computer and could see every keystroke. He broke our trust the third time. He was then limited homework use only.

With our foster kids, they suffered because of his actions and never again was a computer allowed in a bedroom. Not a one of them complained and not a one violated our trust. We eventually got rid of the spyware.

With our youngest daughter, she began as a foster child and wasn't allowed a pc in her room. Eventually we gave her one and then a laptop because she would rather come into the home office with us. Trust was never broken and frankly we trusted her with not only computer access but also the code to the atm and keys to the lockboxes at the bank.

Even today she has access to our banking account, savings acct, etc. So does our oldest daughter. Should something happen to us, they can take care of our finances.

The whole issue is teaching our kids responsibility and them earning trust.

Thank you everyone for your responses, so far. I am posting a link to a website with free software to download and use on your children's computers. I'm currently using it on my sister's kids computers and seems to work great for her. This software may not accommodate everyone needs. It is free, try it out to see if it works for you. :biggrin_2558:

Yea, if I was a teenager, or younger, I too would want a computer in my room...

And I remember when I found those PlayBoy mags in the garage when I was 6 years old. I made a fortune, at that time, selling the pictures to my buddies at a nickel a pop!

Think long and hard about that one.:biggrin_25525: He is.... and then some

Both my kids were allowed free reign on the home PC. We even kept one in the play room. It was controlled, and accessed remotely, without their knowledge.

Later, my son in his teens was allowed to have a personal in his bedroom at his moms house. He brought it to my house for some repairs. And it only took about 10 minutes for him to figure out, he shouldn't be going to certian websites. Unless he was prepared to discuss the issue.

Of course, his stepdad had borrowed his PC because his laptop was down. And he was taking online studies.

Those studies involved booking escorts for his out of town travels. Not exactly sure on the dates. But, I think the divorce happened about 8 months after that :biggrin_255:

We have 1 computer in our apartment that has internet. It is in the living room where they know a parent can and does look over their shoulder at the drop of a hat. I prefer to have the internet in a public part of the apartment. I do trust my boys but I feel better this way.

Never trust a boy and the internet. If I had kids, the only computers in the house would be locked up, and then some. The girls, I would not worry about. But then again, I am not a girl, but I know boys, and love full grown women! If you know what I mean... Those PlayBoys I found are still talked about to this day, it caused quite a stink amongst the local moms. :biggrin_25525:

the girls today are just as into pr0n as the boys are, if you believe the studies and subscription statistics. girls being more mature and social than boys, i think i'd rather have a son looking at pr0n in his room than a daughter arranging meetings at a mall or library or worse.

i'll be building a new pc within 18 months or so, and i'll definitely have my 5yo son by my side.

I've listened to a few folks about those stats. And scarey doesn't even begin to describe it. Especially when you consider the long term "malfunction" they'll have.
