From the things I've read about China, my thoughts are this.
They do not have enough of a work force due to old population control laws.
Also they seem to be dying off at a rapid rate of all ages do to all the poison and pollution they are pumping into the water, and soil, and air.
Here I thought we had it bad in North America.
I just read about a 3 member family, the father has stomach cancer, the mother has breast cancer, the daughter developed Lupus. And the father skipped his treatment to afford his wives treatment.
It's pretty saddening .
My thoughts on China. Not news.

It's not that bad at all.
Mandatory retirement age pushes the older workers into retirement in order to let the young people have jobs.

Friend of mine was a policewoman for a city. At 50 she was told to move to a different city then retire at 55.
She said she doesn't want to move because she's a divorcee with a disabled son. The police department told her, "OK then you can retire right now at 50 with full pay and benefits for life." She took them up on the offer. -
They are a 3000 year empire forged in war into one People. Their failing is a crying need for food, oil and Iron Ore. They have to have it. What they do is sit on Rare Earth minerals that some of us crave for our computers etc. We have some and can source it around the world, but it's pricey.
I see that China is insisting on a one people situation. That excludes those who are not China. It's the same people who banded together by the thousands to walk out stone dirt runways by hand in world war two for weeks to make room for our B29 coming over the Himalayas hauling their own gas, engines, spares and bombs to support future strikes. One people working with nothing but woven basket and bare hands.
Lest you think I celebrate China.. I give them some room. We for whatever reason are ECONOMICALLY tied up. I don't know what the future holds. But what will happen will happen.
That's all I will say. I cannot dare type anymore because One People One China means many levels and some of those are of subjects verboten on here.FlaSwampRat and Intothesunset Thank this. -
I think China is on its way up, and we are on our way out.

@Chinatown are poor parts of western Provinces where stories come from of poverty and poor healthcare? Are people basically fine in Shangai?
I guess I wonder if we're on a path of role reversal at some point. China to some extent offered cheap labor and we took advantage of it. With our floundering economy and corruption, China might doubt it can depend on western wealth so it may invest in earnest to make it's own economy more productive for itself and other trading nations.
It also feels like we're trending toward cheap labor internally with people complaining about the stagnant wages not keeping up with the cost of living or facing the competition from Robots.
Now we have Foxconn coming to Wisconsin and I wonder how that is going to go. Will that really be a boon for employment in the area or just poison Racine?Intothesunset Thanks this. -
