A friend of mine, who worked for a food company, said he usually heard from the truckers that they didn't like their job, even though most of them made good money, like $100,000 per year. I'll ask him more about this, but maybe they liked some parts of it and didn't like other parts, and it's more interesting to talk about the stuff we don't like?
As a high school teacher, there were things I liked and things I didn't like. Sometimes I noticed that I spoke with friends about the things that bugged me, things I didn't like, more than things I liked.
I'd like to know what are the things that, on average, truckers usually like about their job, and what things they usually don't like. My guess would be that they like the freedom, but not the loneliness that at times creep in. They may like the independence, but not having to piss in a bottle, or park the huge rig to go to the bathroom. They may like saving money on rent, but get tired of not being able to jump into the shower at home when they wake up in the morning. Maybe they like the driving, but their butt gets sore too much?
Open to all. Wadda you think?

I am healthy in all respects except for one. My BP is good, I'm strong, hardly ever get sick, etc. But, my doctor checked my blood last year, and I have luekemia -- the slow growing type, which most people who get it, die of something else except for this leukemia. Is my leukemia an issue for a trucking job? Should I even bother saying anything about it? I don't drink, or smoke, or use any drugs, I don't even smoke pot, and I've even cut back on ice cream. I'm 210 lbs, 6'3", not a bad weight, with 120/75 blood pressure. Am I likely to get rejected for the leukemia?
Thanks for thoughts... -
Im not sure about that I would guess it depends on if your taking any meds ? If so it depends on the company if they allow that med or not, and also check dmv if you are. but your height to weight is fine that I know of, Any body else know if Im missing anything ?
Mark Pearson Thanks this. -
I'm not taking any meds. The leukemia is very low in numbers and stable, not growing at all. It's very likely that it'll never become an issue. It's not like a tumor or something, it's just an anomaly in the blood, but isn't affecting me at all, in any way. I'm strong like Bull!
) I doubt is will be an issue. To me, it's just similar to someone who has a bit of a problem on their driving record, from long ago, that doesn't affect their ability to drive well, and they can do a great job at being a trucker?
Thanks much. -
Good to hear your strong like bull ! you should have no worries !
Mark Pearson Thanks this. -
Wait wait... If he's strong like bull...
Does that mean he's full of bulls###? -
I constantly catch myself slingin' bulls###, and don't even know it, until suddenly I realize I aint gotta clue, just sounding like I do. I think I got it from teaching teenagers for so many years, always wanting to look like I know a lot. In my last few years, I gave it up, and just focused on them and what they need for living in the world, outside of the protective walls of schooling -- I always took time to help them get the true answers -- there I go, Peanuts teacher character voice!!
