Yes Freightwipper, I believe it was $9.25 on duty, $7.50 off duty if I remember. I'm trying not to think about it too much lol... you know, getting paid a fast food workers salary to drive 80,000 lbs around the country.. no biggie right?

It's just BS for 6 months.. forget about the money and focus on learning and safety. After 6 months you can GTFO and many others will hire you.
If you makes you feel better I went from .26 cents and $300-$600 a week doing OTR when I started.
To .43 cents and $1100-$1300 a week at Crete after 6 months.
Now after a year leasing a truck and with Schneider I'm $2000-$3000 a week.
All numbers are when I worked a full 7 day week but you get the picture. -
If they were still doing school, I'd have totally recommended you go with Sni. For all their flaws, the focus on safety and doing it right the first time makes me happy to be a driver with them. The company isn't a perfect fit for me, and neither is trucking. But you can't have your cake and eat it too.
I actually had the luxury of paying for my own schooling, so I managed to pick a place that does one on one training.
My recommendation is that you find a way to get a few extra practice sessions in for everything before you go and take your exam. Even if you don't feel you need it. We've all got our "off-days" and now that I'm 8 months in, even my off days aren't so off. Heaven forbid you have an off day on your exam.
(On the worst days when I started, it'd take me a good 30 minutes to back my trailer into a slot. My worst days now only take about 15.)TexasBoy Thanks this. -

DAY 2
So this is the day that we started hitting the books hard! Our instructor started off the day by giving us some small quizzes related to some sections in our CDL books and review packages. After that we went into discussion about Airbrakes, general knowledge, and pretrip to prepare for the permit test on Wednesday. . Oh yeah by the way, you'll have 2 days of study and review before you take your CDL Permit test at the DMV, so if anyone that's coming here soon make sure to study as much as you can so you can have the upper hand. We get 3 chances to take each 1 of the 5 sections so if you fail don't be discouraged.
After the instructor was done, the medical people came back and took some people out of the class to finish up or follow up on some of the medical tests (sleep apnea, blood pressure, physical etc) .
I got called into the office by the contract lady and was informed that because I had a General discharge from the military that I didn't qualify for the 6 month veteran program. I have a General with Honorable Conditions discharge from the Army, done my time in service to qualify as a vet everywhere else.. but not for CR England. So much for the military appreciation
Anyways I got over it after a sec and just went back to class to study. At the end of the day the instructor gave us some take home test to prepare and review for the actual test. Stayed up till about 12am that night studying the sections.
On to day 3, testing day -
Day 3, CDL Permit testing day. 06/03/15
Alright it's time to take the test. We get to the school in Cedar Hills and the instructor gave us a bit to study some more before sending us off. When he sent us, he sent the class on 2 different buses to 3 different DMVs that way we all weren't all in one DMV.. one there in Cedar Hills, one in Waxahachie which is about 20-30 minutes away from the school, and the one that I went too i. Garland, Tx about 45 minutes from the school.
When we got there, one of the ladies checked in about 15 of us. We went to our own section of the DMV for the CDL testers and we were called one by one to talk to the licensers to pay our $11 permit testing fee. After that they'll take you to a computer where you take your test. The computers are pretty high tech, had touch screen options for each test.
Incase you don't know, you only need to pass 2 sections out of 5 to get the CDL Permit: Permit section & Combination Vehicle section. But you do need to pass all 5 to be able to get your CDL license. If you don't pass the first day, they'll take you again the next day. Also if you don't pass the 2 for the permit, you can't take the other 3 sections.
Just my luck.. I passed the permit test and missed 2 out of 20 and failed my Combo test by only 1. So I had to go back to the bus with some others and wait for the others guys to finish. There was a walmart by our DMV so our driver let us go..
Oh and FYI.. be prepared to wait a LONG time for everyone to start & finish taking the test. Some might be back early like me and some might pass all 5, then you'll have to wait for them to process all the paperwork for the state.
Well it's midnight. Been studying all night. Gonna get ready for day 2 of testing. Let's do this!
