Thanks for the posts mindbender.....Can you tell me is the wait to get started that long if you already have your CDL's? My recruiter tells me that I would be going to orientation, then out for several weeks with a trainer....What's the skinny?

Hey guys sorry for the wait to get back but I was out all week. I will answer all the questions I hope. If not put it down again if I miss one.
Newbeenc: 10 speed manual.
Immortalme: If I earned the right to get the bonus put my name down and we can split it if you want. Some money is better than no money.
Milemarker: 1 time over your head and 3-5 times bending over. You get on to the trailer with a ladder in the training center (barn). Its no big deal I promise.
Crunchy Knees: You get good seat time on the range. The main issue is some of the non Mavericks left a lot to be desired with the way they acted. I was almost always on the range for 4-5 hours at a time by myself. The issue with the training is they don't really train you as much as let you train your self and you ask for help if you need it.
As far as Maverick goes I am really happy and they paid me $700 for 4 1/2 days in orientation and 1 3/4 days in the barn training. Plus they gave be 252 dollars in gas for driving there and back home. So far they have done everything they said they would do. The recruiters were off on a few small things but nothing that is a show stopper for sure.
The trainer that I am with is ok. He is nice but he micro manages and I don't like that. Lord willing I will make it the rest of the weeks with him with no issues. I would recomend ASU for training. I just thought that they would be more hands on but to be honest but thank God I didn't have any issues to deam them coming over and telling me what to do. I asked Gus for some help and he helped me out. I will just say if you want a place to hold your hand every second then it is the wrong place to go. If you want them to baby you then it is the worng place to go. If you want to go out and figure it out and ask what you need but get fussed at in the prosses then you are gfood to go. All jokes aside it was hard to be gone form the wife and kids for a month so my patients were starting to run thina s well.
jmac: As far as how long does it take if you already have your cdl I don't know. Not as long as if you have to go to school but I don't know all the times for that. If you already have your cdl I THINK you do 5 days oreintation 14 days securment and about 1-2 weeks with a trainer but please don't base anything off what I say because I am hearing everything second hand from others.
Ask anything els and I will check it again tonight and before I head out tommorow afternoon. -

Just so it is clear to all the only thing that I said I didn't like to much was the SCHOOl and the SCHOOL alone. Maverick has been fine to me so far and I have no complaints.

Just how long is your commitment to this company? Are they paying 100% of your tuition? How long will they keep u out with a trainer?
Thanks for posting back!! -
I am not mindbinder, but if mav sends you to school to get your CDL it is a 6 month contract. They pay 100% and you go with a trainer up to 6 weeks. -
Yeah what notarps said. The only thing I will add is if they send you to school it is a minimum of 21 days no questions asked. If it is over 21 days but under 35 days then you have to go back to little rock for 7 days of securment traning. If over 35 days then you go back and "test" out and they put you on your own.
Well speaking of training I will be leaving in a few to go to the terminal so I will check back on this thread next Sat or Sun Lord willing. I don't want to get stuck out with my trainer for sure. I think when you are that close in a small area you need a good break form each other. -
Well, let me start by saying that Maverick is a fine company and I recommend them highly. Now I will say that I stopped working for them yesterday. No one there did me wrong at all but there is no way that I can do that job. The reason is I have three boys and a wife at home. I thought I could be gone and it not effect them or me that much. I was wrong. My wife and I decided that it would be for the best interest of our family if I came home and found a job local that may not pay as much. I called and spoke with Allen in at Maverick and he was very nice. I explained everything to him and he understood. I told him I would pay them the $1,500 that I owed for the school. He said he would get me a bus ticket home and all would be fine.
I am now looking for a job that is more local. If I am gone one or two days a week fine but the whole 34 hour restart at home on the weekends is just not going to cut it for my family. Again I have nothing to say bad about the company. They did everything they said they would do and they were great.
Now I will ask you guys a question. Does anyone know of a company that will hire a fresh student and be more "local" out of SC? -
Hi All
Mindbender I decided to check the school out for myself. Its about exactly as u described. This school is in the middle of Nowhere. I have never seen farm fields as big as the ones down in Arkansas. They seem to go on forever. I actually came very close to running out of gas.
The school seems to have more trucks than they could use. Some of the trailers i saw were not in very good shape. The thing that worried me is there was a woman. She must have been a straggler. She told me she only got something like 40 hours behind the wheel on the range and just 8 out on the road. U said u got more hours than this. Would u say u jump in the truck whenever possible and this woman might have been too laid back?
thanks
