First off I want to apologize for any mistakes spelling due to the fact my phone has a crazy auto correct.
So I've been with mcelroy for a short time now and theirs some good and bad with this company. I however have been fortunate enough to have gotten a good fleet manager/dispatcher. Some others I went through orientation/training with weren't so fortunate.
I only average about 1800-2000 miles a week. Some weeks are better than others. A lot of the places we pick up at and deliver to are very very slow. A lot of sitting waiting to get loaded and unloaded. I'm on paper logs so I have an advantage most of mcelroy drivers don't have.
They do get you home every weekend. Sometimes early on Friday or late, just according to where they send you for a Friday morning delivery and then to pick up for your Monday morning delivery. If you have a very long trip for your Monday morning delivery you may have to leave on Saturday but doesn't happen often. Personally I've not had to do that but then again I'm on paper logs![]()
Back to fleet managers, I believe this is the one thing that makes some drivers love it here and some hate it. I personally hardly ever have to wait for a load once I get unloaded and loads where supposed to have dropped off. But some of my buddy's have to wait 4-5 hours on a daily basis. They hate it with mcelroy.
The trucks are set for 62 mph, very slow. They start you at 43 cents a mile and you get plenty of minimum pay loads. I average about. 50 cents a mile each week. Maybe bring home $750 after taxes.
Just trying to get my time in and get my experience. Hope this helps anyone that may be looking at mcelroy out of cdl school.
Be prepared for orientation and training. They do cut drivers for backing skills, road test, being late for anything or not being honest. They have cameras everywhere at their Cuba terminal and are watching and listening. So if you're having trouble in school backing or driving or can't pass a hair follicle drug test it would probably be a good idea to look at other companies!
My time so far at mcelroy truck lines

can you explain why paper logs give you an advantage..
GITRDUN45 Thanks this. -
16 yrs and you don't know????????????????????? Can you say CHEAT,lol.
bigdogpile and Inland-Pilot Thank this. -
The advantage is he can back up his log book while the shippers, receivers, and his company decide to stop playing in their butt and get to work, and He gets all the CSA points when busted for falsifying his log book. Yeahhh. Where can I sign up???
GITRDUN45 Thanks this. -
Inland-Pilot and pattyj Thank this.

That's true.Maybe at the time he doesn't know hes going to have low miles that day so get creative just in case.
GITRDUN45 Thanks this. -
You just have to know how to do it to make it look believable.I wouldn't falsify my log book,no carrier is worth it.

The whole paper log is helpful to get to where you're going when you actually have a long run and making sure you get home on Friday instead of having to take a ten hour break because you run out of time and get home on Saturday....

I have had weeks where I've gotten 2500-2700 miles, but average 1800-2000
