If you ever buy an ex company truck, have the keys replaced and ECM PW reset. Most of these large companies have only 4-5 different keys based on model. And some have master keys - JBH does this - so it is not that hard for and ex-employee to steel a truck. Doesn't take a criminal mastermind to steal a truck when you have a master key.

Directed electronics (Viper, Python, Clifford, ect,...) has several alarms that offer GPS tracking through their website. They typically cost around $600 installed and are well worth it. You may want to look into one of these units for your next truck.
The advantage of a directed unit over a LoJack is the GPS tracking. Unless LoJack has changed over the last few years, it is only useful if your local PD had the equipment to track it and THREE cars to dedicate to finding your truck.
I spent 3 years installing alarms professionally I won't go with anything but a Directed product for my own cars. In fact, I just bought a viper alarm for my daily driver. -
Remember,
secure it like your job depends on it !!! -
What have we learned today? There is a shopping center in Baltimore where the towing company (probably has all sort of signs saying no truck parking) can't/won't tow semis. heh heh heh.
That's why I never worried about double parking in Manhattan. Even though impounds are up (to cover budget shortfalls) they can't hook a semi.
Don't worry driver, police already have a suspect. Here's a sketch!
Seriously though driver, I never bought that whole "safety in numbers" arguement.
If I'm not going to be in my truck for a few days why park it with a bunch of other trucks?
Not only is it a "target rich enviroment" for thieves, but judging by how underpaid some drivers are, I can't exactly vouch for every other CDL-A holder out there either.
Best place to leave a truck for the weekend, IMHO? Backed up to a wall somewhere. Pull a fuse/relay/CPU connector out from under the hood too.
If there's an abandoned buisness or commercial space for sale in your neighborhood see if you can strike up a deal to park backed up to their door for the weekend.
(and if you're REALLY familiar with the area, like your hometown, let's just say it's better to beg forgiveness than to ask permission)
I used to have a sweet "stash" spot in NYC when I would pass by my mother's place.
But recently the (abandoned) building has been purchased and turned into a Toyota Service Dept. Now 8 bays empty into where I used to park my truck! Dagnabit!CondoCruiser Thanks this. -

Rule #1: Never leave your load in an unsecure area. Especially Baltimore. If I can find a secure location in Chicago, anyone can. But I never ever went home with a load either.
Thieves steal and look later. There will be a pickle sale somewhere. I'll check ebay out. I never bid on a pickle before.
Loads get stolen everyday. There's ways to move it if it ain't a crooked warehouse.
You ain't behind on your truck payments are you?? Just because that tow company doesn't tow big trucks, doesn't mean the owner didn't call another big rig tow company for the job.
My guess it's someone that knows that trucks park at that shopping center, hence they are local. The truck is probably sitting at the TA because they can't find a spot either. -

CondoCruiser, Injun and Big John Thank this.
