    So -- are you moving up to Georgia? If not -- how are you getting home for your hometime? How much hometime do you get?

    Or -- are they letting you take a truck home? If so -- where will you park it?

    If you don't get at least 4 days of hometime -- the commute home (& back) won't be worth it.

    I have to commute. My plan is to stay out 3 to 4 weeks. I have no problem doing this. My goal in the end is to move to North Georgia or the Chattanooga area. Out of curiosity, has anybody moved out of Florida and transferred their CDL to a state like Georgia and Tennessee? If so, what needed to be done?

    Tennessee has no state income tax. It's a good state to live in; I was born and raised there.

    Move to Las Vegas; no state income taxes and no food taxes at the grocery store.

    Don't move -- or do any celebrations, just yet.

    Wait until after you get your 4th paycheck from them, for all that (i.e., don't count those chickens -- until they're hatched).

    @Chinatown,

    I want to be in the southeast in case something happens to family. I know I might sound crazy, but my nephew is 10 years old, and I would like to still be part of his life for the next 8 to 10 years. I have lots of goals. It’s going to be one step at a time to achieve them.

    I know. I’m going to wait until a couple of things happen in my personal life. I am hoping that once I succeed in this endeavor, everything will start to pan out. I am saying a prayer every day.

    I have the support of my vocational rehabilitation counselor, who said that he is going to fight tooth and nail to get me a refresher course down over at Sage in Fort Pierce before I go up and take my road test and do orientation in Rydal Georgia. Also, my family and friends are supporting me 120% on this.

    No, that's not crazy. Some people are close to their family and some of us aren't.
    I've always liked to be able to pull-up-stakes and try something different without it weighing on my conscience.

    Opus Thanks this.

    honestly, I’m doing it weighing the calculated risk associated with truck driving. Now, if someone told me I had to move to Seattle for my dream job, I would just wait it out. Now I have done very extensive research and I can fly to Orlando via Charlotte from Chattanooga or Atlanta. I can fly into Melbourne from Atlanta or Chattanooga via Charlotte.

    Of course, there is always Greyhound into Orlando but I’m not going to resort to that. I’m going to set aside a couple hundred bucks per paycheck for emergencies.

    Flights and rental cars are very expensive commutes.

    Especially for what a beginning driver makes.

    Your employer is not likely to reimburse you for all that.
