Maybe Arby’s will treat better. I think that’s what you said where you were going. Not sure what all of this has to do with trucking though.

The job I was working was a moving company contractor for a major van line doing military moves and local and long distance moves.

Guys I interviewed today for a part-time dispatching position for a local tow truck company. I was wondering if anybody on here has been in the towing business?

I've done towing. Aside from the 'big' companies, anybody who's looking for a part-time dispatcher is probably a small company. I'm assuming that includes part-time driving as well. Most tow companies are shoestring operations, though.....

    Hey guys,

So after thinking about it for sometime, I’ve decided just to say that me getting another ticket on my license and risk losing. My CDL is not even worth it. I am going to be pursuing stuff outside the truck driving industry until 2025 when my points will fall off and maybe then new opportunities will open.

so what got me thinking is that I have some the best Insurance right now. my co-pays are within my means, and chances are even with my supplemental income and added work income. I would probably make just as much as a first year Truck Driver.

I have a lot going on in my personal life right now that I cannot control. my right shoulder has bone spurs, and a couple of other things going on with it that’s making me seek administrative work. On top of that, I have a couple of other things that I do not want to disclose.

i’m not totally putting my dream off the books, because of something comes up I may consider it, but in the meantime, they’re just on hold. The good news is is that I have a clean background and never have been convicted of anything other than minor traffic violations. Maybe when freight picks back up I will look into it or if somebody says if I’m interested in driving for them, I may consider it.

Have you looked into yard dog work? Could be a good way for you to get your foot into the industry without being subject to all the insurance regs that are hindering you. Also, you will be a pro at backing after just a few days.

    CalculatedRisk Thanks this.

I have. Honestly as soon as I’m not tied to Brevard county, I’m thinking about moving north. I appreciate the suggestion and keep them coming please.

    Kyle G. Thanks this.

If you seriously think you could later move north -- I would suggest looking at somewhere in the northern half of Georgia (but below Atlanta & Athens).

Georgia's economy is "on the gas"....& that area seems to be a hiring sweet spot for A LOT of carriers.

    Fellow members,

to begin I just wanna say thank you very much for my ride while it lasted. I have some medical issues that require me to give up my CDL. I’ve always been honest and upfront, but I’m gonna keep my medical issues private at this time. Last, but not least, I found a part-time job I really like and my manager is willing to work with me. That job is at a Dunkin franchise.

please allow me to say thank you very much to every single member that has contributed to this thread and former and current drivers. I can understand and relate how you guys feel when it comes to delivering and picking up loads that are delayed.

There is some thing I want to clarify and that is what happened at my old job.

I had my CDL, and my plan was to eventually drive for the owner. Now the owner had treated me like someone who is mentally retarded. Granted I have high functioning autism but honestly, he always gave me the lowest of the low jobs. I was paid lower than any other employee. There would be times I would be harassed and there would be times the owner would be little me.

The final straw was when somebody flicked a live cigarette into a garbage can, and threatened to beat me up. I told the office staff that if he ever did that again, the cops would be called and I would be pressing charges against their contractor as he was a 1099 contracted employee.

when I told my sister this, we decided enough was enough and I sent them a message via text and email saying that they had my two weeks notice. They told me to keep my uniforms and told me that they would give me a good reference. honestly, I did not need a reference in order to obtain this job that I have right now.

when I found my job over at Dunkin, it was pure luck and open till now I have decided not to share this information. I just want you guys to know that I’m not against doing any thing that’s below me but I refuse to be treated like garbage.
