I have spent many hours and years of research on this topic. I have been a successful business owner for many years. The one that I have just sold I started it from the ground up it was time to do something new. My wife and I lost our son to a battle with cancer a couple of years ago. My heart and drive for this business kind of died with my son so we decided it was time to do something new.
We have been blessed with the sale of our previous company so we have paid cash for a new Freightliner Cascadia Evolution. I have also paid cash for our Insurance that was a big hit but we expected it. I have also bought a nice 2012 Reefer trailer I figured buy the best that you can will pay off somewhere in repairs maybe. We are just waiting on getting our authority back and we will hit the road. I am not looking for the negative folks that want to tell me I am doomed I am planning on keeping and up date so others that might come along later will have something that might help them out.
I sold my business for enough that I really don't have to do anything if I did not want to but I really wanted to start something new. I also know I have the cash to help me out and keep me running so that makes life a lot easier on that end as well. I have drove for myself in the past and I also helped a friend in this business for many years as well. I don't jump on here thinking it is easy work I know I have plenty of challenges ahead but I know that I have the skills to work through them.
My turn to start my own Authority.

I think the business/career change is just what you need. I wish you success.
It's not clear from your post the extent of your trucking related experience you have, or are lacking, or need to get "up to par" on.
I'll leave the advice and input for those more experienced than I am. I just wish you well. -
Good luck and keep us posted.

My Grandfather used to say "Don't put the wagon ahead of the horses...!!" - I could do something like this even though I don't have all that money... So, I started from the "zero", will be working my way up as I stay on the road and learn more and more. Then, maybe in the few months or so, become an O/O working under someone's authority... And then, let's see how the "wagon" stay on following the "horses"...
I wish you all the blessings, but if you need to really start, why not to go under someone's authority for a while? -
good luck wish you the best !
