You really want a local job.
Don't waste a minute with online applications.
Walk thru their front door at 8am and ask for one.
Watch out what you wish for.
90 percent of local jobs suck.
You work twice as hard for half the money.canadian, BigHossVolvo, Rocks and 3 others Thank this. -

Never be desperate, have a little patience if you can afford to.
Take note, do the drivers look happy or grumpy, does the pace seem hectic or casual, what's the the overall state of their facility and equipment, does it look organized, is it a pig stye, do the trucks look well kept.
Apply at the ones you think you would enjoy working at and let them see that you're enthusiastic and willing to work hard and learn, don't be afraid to knock on doors because there's some gems out there that are usually word of mouth advertising, small fleets where you're not just a number.
Reason for this is, the jobs are so good at these places that positions only open up if a driver retires, their health puts them out, or someone dies.
Even if they only have one or two trucks, you never know, they might be looking for a spare or relief driver, it's a foot in the door.
I've found some really great jobs, good money, good equipment, friendly environments with no judgement or bureaucracy, everyone did their jobs to the best of their ability and worked like a fine oiled machine, until the new clowns in management started having big stupid ideas. lol
If you really want to work at a particular place, keep banging on their door once a month or pop in from time to time and make sure they remember you and know you want a job there.
In this case your wonderful sense of humor and glowing personality will be embedded in their minds in a favorable way, unless you're just another lump looking for a job.Rocks Thanks this. -

Great advice snow monster !!!!! I have never burned a bridge and always take the time to chat with customers and drivers. And always have my ears open .drivers will usually tell ya what the place is like to work for and if there is a high turnover ...great advice snow monster .

12 hour days PLUS the commute back and forth isn’t for everyone.
