This is most likely as it would be the easiest to do.

A little off topic but can't you find a proper parking spot when going home? Rent one maybe? Walmart and city streets are not good places to park the truck when going home for off duty for a lot of reasons, including public order, traffic safety and local residents consideration.

It’s also likely that the insurance wouldn’t cover theft.

More Walmart locations are prohibiting truck parking for their generosity was overexploited. Example of abuse is Sidney, NE, York, NE, Springfield, IL that at some point became truck stops - everyone started parking there as they saw fit.
A shift manager may not have a problem, but she may not be even aware that a construction crew is scheduled for the morning shift with their heavy equipment rented for hundreds of dollars per hour. Of course, the corporate will ask why they could not complete their task...then it is all too easy for them to order truck parking ban. I would do so too, if I were them. Just shop and get the hell out of there...make sure to return the cart to the corral too.

I dont think it's unfair to ask them to allow us to park, just make 9am the curfew. If your not shopping, be gone till 11pm. As a collective, we probably ly spend a good chunk of change at Walmart's.

I agree to the point that what you said is a better solution than the total abuse.

The op is asking question how something like breaking in to his truck in order to move it was possible . I am not sure, if there is more of "how was it possible?" vs "Whoever dared to do that?" tone in the question. There is more important angle to it. Whoever did that, most likely did something that was legally objectionable. However, his rig should have been towed and the bill should have been on the op. That would have been the right way. A verbal consent of one of the "managers" is not enough of an assurance that truck parking for 24 hours is fine. They are not the real owners of the lot. They may not even be aware of the local ordinances that supersede Walmart own policies. Even Walmart trucks cannot stay for more than 30 minutes, after they deliver, on some of their own sites.

I unlocked a javis truck in jeffersonville Ohio about 8 days ago. I really wish I new the key trick many lock smiths go.

Where I park is another trucking company. They have my spare key. In 2/3 years they have moved it twice.
I'm sure the guy didn't want to move your truck. But be satisfied they new enough to put the elog back in off duty. Something I had to explain to the logging company
