Most of us had an idea that this went on, anyhow. Funny, yes, but they're still rat bastages for playing with our livelihood for their entertainment.

My boss gives me a little bonus for a clean inspection. It isn't much but it could add up if you get enough of them.

I keep my truck looking filthy on the outside. Shoot, I even wave in the general direction of the scalemaster if the PrePass red light requires my presence in the scale lanes. Sadly, I don't seem to be doing it right because I have only been inspected twice in the past 10 years.

I know, I know, "Don't invite the man into your life". Oh well, what works for some doesn't always work for others.

    YMMV

I see what you're saying ,I forgot to mention I didn't get any response at all on my Pre Pass kinda like they didnt have theirs even turned on.This specifically used to happen a lot when coming home empty out of Lincoln Ne on 2 hwy .Would go over the weigh in motion 50 mph perfectly centered up,no one behind me etc.Block ahead Truck must Exit. Never inspected though, just hassle to creep up and weigh. The main scale I had the problems with was the 71 hwy Harrisonville Mo scalehouse. Was in there once, and they lost interest in me ( was monitoring the cb and heard a driver telling another driver how to bypass their scale) They told me to carry on,he grabbed his coat and went to try and find the driver going around the scenic route.I used to take the I-29 Tracy/Weston exit frequently to go around the Platte City scale. DOT was sitting down there one day and pulled me over.He said I know what you're doing, what are you trying to do? I just kept telling him " driving down a state hwy sir.Politely informed him that he couldn't chose my route for me and I wasnt breaking any law that I knew of.They checked me out,I had a light load, logs and permits in order, nothing wrong with the truck.Told me they were mainly looking for overweight dump trucks that had been cutting thru there. Told me I was good to go.

I can't think of anymore Do's to add other than what has already been mentioned, but here is a list of don'ts I can think of.
    1. Do not raise your middle finger or moon the person in the scale house when passing through.
    2. Do not leave Budweiser container on dash when crossing the scale.
    3. Do not wear a cowboy hat.
    4. Do not roar up to the scale at 40 mph and slam on your brakes.
    5. Do not toss urine jug out the window when crossing scale.

Good stuff! 1. Don't grab and snort your nose like a meth head. 2.Don't engage in conversation on your bluetooth.3. Don't jump out of the truck because your steers are overweight. 4.Don't grind your gears approaching the scale. Heard a crazy story about a new driver. They told him to shift and come back thru (he was about 100 lbs over on his tandems) Well, he circled around the scalehouse and attempted to grab as many gears as he could going over the scale.

    It's not your imagination.

A few observations on the redacted report below from last week. I chose that week since it was a busy one for both trucks, with a lot of passes thru GA scales, along with a smattering of some neighboring states for contrast.

Q: What's the best way to get a PrePass green light in Georgia?
A: Pass those scales when they're closed.

Going over a few recent weeks, I'd say the ratio on open Georgia scales red/green is about 80/20, usually flagged AllTrucksIn. Well, except for that time a few months back when they backed up I-75 SB for about 3 miles at the Ringgold scale and caused a fatality. They got generous with green lights for a couple weeks after that one. Every other state is about 5/95 red/green.

I don't see Louisiana as particularly red light crazy. There's just a scale on every corner. So the odds are a little better just on numbers. At least for us anyway. The week pictured didn't take either of us to LA. Those statistics are just off the top of my head from earlier. We're semi-regular out to TX so do get to visit the LA scales often enough.

In Georgia my son's truck was logged twice at closed scales and the flag is NoLight. So kids, just remember when making logbook corrections: don't think you weren't detected and recorded just because the PrePass doesn't light up or beep when you pass a closed scale. Those waskawy wabbits can make it work like that on purpose.

Sometimes the PrePass faults and doesn't signal in the cab. My truck did that in the report at a VA scale. I didn't just pull in on a green light to say "hey." I approached and pulled in since the PrePass didn't go off at all. It had apparently registered with the scale nonetheless.

So there you have it. A few PrePass secrets exposed.

You made your bed. You lay in it.

    In other words, funny business?

Your cavalier attitude toward the ramifications for a driver because of your job, is appalling.

Yeah, really. It sure is nice to be toyed with.

Most cops are honest. But this gentleman isn't doing much for anti-cop stereotypes.

If anyone needed any more evidence that it's not about safety in the least, this thread provided it in spades. I'm very disappointing with what I've been reading here.

On a different note, they seem to appreciate it when you turn your headlights off at night when you're approaching, also.

The drivers livelihood is not on the line because a scalemaster wants to play..your livelihood is on the line if you (the driver) fail to do a proper pretrip and drive into an inspection with needed repairs..if your truck has issues expect to get wrote up..if you have a blue tanker, that is not a violation...Can they (target) ? of course they can..and they ALLWAYS DO...CYA and you have nothing to worry about..
