Been driving big truck for almost 40 years and never heard of this Black Dog deal.
Back when I was young and full of diesel juice, I saw a station wagon dead stopped on US Route 13 in Dover, DE in the wee hours of the morning and I was staring at all the kids in the rear window as I stopped inches from the bumper. Suddenly it wasn't there anymore...lucky for me there was no traffic behind me or I woulda been the Black Dog. Older brother did see a big ship in the middle of the road one night but that was back when real yellow jackets were good & plenty.

My First Drive from Illinois to Washington was an event. 1994 I was driving through Montana on I90. I swear I fell asleep behind the wheel somewhere in the mountains. A little voice came on in my head like a Drill Sargent.
GET UP YOUR SLEEP! I woke and saw an exit immediately to the right. I got over pulled into the gas station and went to sleep. I remember not sleeping the day before and it caught up with me in Montana. Never again. -
I've never seen a black dog, but I have been so tired that I have halucinated, I would see what I thought were cars or people on the side of the road, but they weren't really there. When that happened I knew it was time to pull over and take a nap.

I drove from St. Augustine FL all the way to Rochester, NY in my 4 wheeler one time, it took me about 24hours. Anyway it started a few hours before I reached NY but I started seeing glints of light with light trails behind them flashing all around my vision like little fireflies. It was kind of cool!

I saw the black dog 2 nights ago. This black thing popped up in my lane and ran across the road. A car came from the front and it's lights shone right through the thing. It was about 3 or so feet high, with long legs and a long tail. No discernable ears, but I could make out a head. I know the area well where I saw it, so I know it wasn't any kind of animal you'd find there. Suffice it to say I got to a place where I could stop and sleep 10km from there. Freaked me out a little.
