Anytime you get into a big rig battle with Meatloaf, it's time to pull over for the night.

Worst hallucination I've had was near sunrise when my tired brain thought the horizon line was an overpass. Adrenalin woke me up before I slammed on the brakes too hard.
Intothesunset, Spartan0229, Cottonmouth85 and 2 others Thank this. -
Intothesunset, Cottonmouth85 and Lepton1 Thank this.

Heh, close enough. Running back and forth on the same stretch of road all night.
Intothesunset and Cottonmouth85 Thank this. -
The only time I saw something close to the black dog was when I was really tired and night driving. The trainer I had required driving at night just so he could sleep during the day. There was a refer in front with polished rear doors. The road was rough and as the trailer bounced the head lights of the truck I was driving looked like teeth. No face to the dog really. Just remember the teeth.
Intothesunset and Lepton1 Thank this. -
One thing I did see plenty of back when I was running nights, was meteors. If you get far enough away from all the lights of the big cities, those will be as visible as a snow covered mountain in the horizon.

I have stayed away from this thread because I have had nothing of value to add. However over the last 18 months I have had neurological issues with awareness brought about because of Epilepsy. I know for a fact the mind can play cruel tricks on you. So while there being an actual black dog is a myth the issue of seeing things because of tiredness is a fact. I am at church using my smart phone now but that old song Wildwood weed comes to mind. Take a trip and never leave the farm.

I encourage every driver to at least once in their life park for the night in the middle of NOWHERE in an area with no light pollution, like central Nevada. I did that once with a city boy trainee. He woke up to go out and take a piss. Suddenly he was screaming.
I got out to see what was wrong. Nothing was wrong. It's just a forty year old man who for the first time in his life saw the Milky Way in all its Glory.alds, Intothesunset, SteveScott and 5 others Thank this. -
My black dog was running up I81 after having been up well over 30 hours on paper logs. Tunnel vision resulted. The edges of the tunnel vision resembled dogs racing the truck on both sides of the road.....or tunnel.
Stopped at the TA (now torn down) and made a parking spot. Load was late to Boston but I did NOT apologize to my dispatcher. As a matter of fact, I never ran that hard or that illegal ever again.Intothesunset, Spartan0229 and Lepton1 Thank this.
