I'm considering driving school for my CDL. Since this will be the first time I will have a CDL
do trucking companies pull your personal DMV record as a condition for hiring? Or do they only look at your commercial record?
Is there a max number of points you can have on your personal DMV record before a company will decide not to hire you?
What is the length of time trucking companies typically go back on your personal DMV record?
I had a couple of speeding tickets/fix it ticket in the past but no felonies or DUIs ever. I'm concerned my past tickets will stop me from getting picked up by a company. Especially since I'm a first year driver.

most are max. 2 tickets in last 3 yrs.

a COUPLE speeding tickets wont make your job search tremendously more difficult. most companies say either 1,2, or 3 tickets maximum within the last 3 years. yes they will get your dmv report. many companies say no felonies, no or no more than 1 misdemeanor, and no reckless driving. (15 mph over posted limit). if one of your tix was for over 15mph more than speed limit, that may pose a serious problem.

I got a ticket 5 years ago. 86 in a 65. Personal car with no CDL. Turns out that it was in fact a misdemeanor. I didn't know it was a misdemeanor and didn't mention any criminal convitctions on my SWIFT application, I did however, tell them that I had a speeding ticket for 21mph over. Didn't know it was a misdemeanor till I got my DAC a couple weeks ago. They didn't say anything to me about it, but I know that they know... Heck, they knew about it before I did!

It's obvious you're worried about your record. We can't help unless you tell us the limit of the speeds. If you're over 15mph you're doomed. But then again we have to know the particulars. I don't mean to get personal but there's tons of experience here that can help or you could read all the regulations.

A 15 over haunted me for a long time. Companies will still hire you. It seemed to me the big well known minimum wage otr companies had the strictest rules. They ask a lot for someone to stay gone for weeks with a Burger King salary. Don't think you'd feel so lucky if you were able to fix your mvr, graduate school, get hired by one of these guys then look at your first paycheck vs hours worked.

Glad I only have a 14 over 5 years ago.
