Hi all. We've got a 96 379 n14 1.2 m miles in framed about 100k ago. The compressor has been passing oodles of oil for awhile now. Builds air like a lizzard blowing for extra cash. The owner said we had another truck with a n14 and they chased a similar problem for months I guess they had some other problem that would cause a good compressor to blow oil through. Couldn't find anything in any search's anything you guys have ran into?
a cut or broken line from air compressor to truck dryer will also cause slow air buildup. Also check dryer to wet tank air connectors.
It builds air and holds air with no problem. Is just dumping oil. One of our other wreckers had the same problem and when they changed the compressor it still had the oil blow by problem. No one can remember what it was though. What I'm trying to find out is if there is a common problem with them that can cause oil blow by other than the compressor
Speaking of oil drains. Don't you just love those guys that use silicone on new compressor mounting gaskets or water pumps. We have a shade tree that works on trucks in our area. Whenever someone comes in and I see that red silicone I always ask the customer "did so and so work on your truck?" And they say "how did you know?"
Yea we have a few techs that are obsessed with rtv. We also have a few who use heat shrink butt connectors and don't shrink them. Anymore I tend to try to do as much work as possible on my own truck as I cannot stand other peoples quality of work.
Exactly! Never played with trucks air compressors much, but have painted a lot of cars and seen the same thing happen, just from over-spray plugging a filter.
the intake is fine nice and clear which I would assume would also cause slow air building which Isnt a problem. Mr.x it draws air from the intake manifold as some one decided the easy to change filter on the sidthe the compressor was to hard. #### engineers. Which causes premature falure of the compressor. I'll be convetting it to a old style filter as soon as I can get the parts
Thank you! Thats interesting. Makes me wonder if a bad seal in the turbo could be pushing a little oil into the intake where the compressor could pick it up? I know it doesnt take much oil and water in an air tank to make it look like you got a real bad problem.
