Hi guys, I'm not sure if I'm allowed in this part of the forum. I'm an O/O of a 2001 t800 with a celect plus 525.
I switched from 15w40 to delo 5w40 full synthetic last oil change. I seem to have picked up a fair sized leak as a result. Probably a 2"x2" puddle from 15 minutes idling.
I have a drip that originates from what I believe is the oil transfer tube. It is a metal tube that is bolted to the side of the oil pan. (drivers side) I called kenworth about the orings and gaskets to replace the seal. Im normally fairly mechanical, have rebuilt several gas motors, changed clutches etc. I'm wondering if I can just unbolt the tube from the oil pan and the pump and replace the gaskets and orings? or is something going to fall off in the pan. any other suggestions or advise? now that's its warming up Im going to go back to the 15w40. I hope that slows the leak way down so I may be able to live with it, but if not,I have to fix it.
Thanks
John

Look closely. More likely sometime else. Leaking tube between the pan and oil pump should cause low oil pressure. Nothing scary in those but there is also a seal between the tube and aluminum flange.

You're leak may be just above the pickup tube. Could be coming from accessory drive or oil pump gasket. I always thought mine was from a bad o ring, turns out the oil pump gasket was the culprit.
Though doing pickup tube is easy. 4 bolts and work it loose. It's easier if your dropping pan to do rods and mains.
Torque is 40 ft lbs I think. Have to check.
Top of pickup tube gets o ring, side going to pan gets gasket. -
Currently having this issue.

Saw your post about the oil pump o-rings. The part number for those is in that thread. Might as well replace those and the o-rings and gasket on the transfer tube while you are at it
The transfer tube has a gasket and square seal on the oil pump side and one o-ring on the pan side:
Gasket: Cummins 157551, PAI 131295
Seal: Cummins 3034986, PAI 136011
O-ring: Cummins 3029847, PAI 121224
There are some kits on ebay but I'd shy away from those. They look really cheapOxbow Thanks this.
