I got my CDL 3 years ago, but got full custody of my daughter so I couldn't go OTR or leave my other job. Just wondering if any local companies would hire me. Or I need OTR experience first. Or what would you do in my situation. Thanks
Name local companies in so cal that hire with no experience

@Chinatown All of this information is really good. I've recently graduated CDL school and looking to work out of So Cal too. It's hard to find companies that train new drivers, but I know they're out there. Here's my short list for doing regional so far - do you have anything to add?
CRST
Werner
Northern Refrigerated
Old Dominion
I was hoping to get a no-touch freight job and really like Werner, but I just spent time learning manual at school and Werner only runs automatic trans. My concern is taking a job like this, forgetting how to drive manual, ending up out of work somehow, and having to be limited to automatic because I forgot everything about manual.Chinatown Thanks this. -
All carriers, except specialized carriers, are switching to automatics.
If you learned manual at school; it's like riding bicycle, you never forget.imgoingfwrd Thanks this. -
@Chinatown I'm in Orange County, Fullerton; about 25 miles south of LA. I was about to apply to CR England, they're 2 miles from my house, but then I read the reviews on here! I really do like Werner, but had so much trouble learning manual I thought I should continue with it until I really got it down. But I see the logic of what you're saying!
Thanks for pointing that out. I'm really brain dead after spending so much time applying and investigating companies in my area.Last edited: Apr 9, 2019
Chinatown Thanks this. -
@imgoingfwrd - what do you think of the other companies I listed on this thread?
Here's another one:
National Carriers | The Elite Fleet
We're Committed to Training New Drivers
When you enjoy something and you're good at it, teaching comes naturally - and it's fun. That's how we feel about training recent CDL grads. But it's not just the feeling. It's a commitment. We know that staying elite depends on helping the next generation get started and keep going strong.
Must have a valid CDL with successful completion of an accredited CDL school.
