Hubs has been driving for just over a year. Within that year, he has learned the hard way that a few companies see this as "an excuse to get out of working". He has been very adamant about giving them his current fiscal year drill schedule so it's not like they don't have notice ahead of time. He loves driving & although it's a hard lifestyle, we love being a trucking family. We just need to find a company that is willing to work alongside National Guard and allow us to provide for our family. Is there such a company that exists? Or do trucking companies not "play well" with National Guard?

I was in the National Guard when I started trucking in 2008 There is a law that states, that the company is required to get the employee home for drill. I will let you find it but, when the carrier I drove with, whoever they were, was having a hard time getting me home in time for drill weekend, I told them they had a choice. Either get me a load to the house or I was bobtailing all the way home. They can not fire you for it, it is a law that will get them fined big money. Tell your hubby to just take a stand, with whatever company he decides to work for. HOOAH!
wore out Thanks this. -
Thank you for your husbands service. First off by law the company must get you home for in time for drill, He gave a copy of his drill schedule to them so the
company knew about drill ahead of time in theory. Unfortunaly things fall through the floor so the soldier needs to be proactive in reminding the dispatcher of
drill weekends, turn down loads because he is headed the wrong way, and if the dispatcher is not cooporating go up the chain of command. Outside
resources to consider ESGR (Employer Support for the guard and reserve) and the jag office. He might want to consider putting his dispatcher in for the
"patroit" award at the ESGR website. Schinder will guarantee that soldiers are home for drill TMC has a pretty good reputation (home 46 out 52) UNFI
and NFI. The law states that the employer must provide reasonable accomdations, unfortunatley the soldier must educate/remind there employer of the
law. and if push comes to shove file a EEOC complaint
Best of luckSJArmyWife and SheepDog Thank this. -

This is one of those times you need to write to your Congressmen if he is having trouble with the company. I would do that after he first goes up the chain of command with the company he is with. It is most likely that he has run up against someone who is way to proud of themselves. A company must comply with federal law. It is a federal law that the company cannot punish a member of the Armed Forces for doing their duty for this country. I continue to fly for the Air Force Reserve. My job is safe here because I make the country safe over there.
Thank your husband for his service but you need to tell him that war is something you fly over not something you walk through.SheepDog Thanks this. -
