BLEAH.
The dirty rascals... I should tie them to the driveshaft...mjd4277 Thanks this. -
They settled a class action suit for 150+mil which gave truck owners pennies on the dollar for their out of pocket losses due to the EGR only Maxxfarce tech. I guess Milan wanted actual damages & went on it's own.
Lets face it, companies worth billions that employ thousands rarely get the same justice a Ma & Pa would.buddyd157 Thanks this. -
Sure, they managed to get a reversal but the damage to their reputation is all but totally shot. I wouldn’t want any of their current trucks even if it was free!
drvrtech77, x1Heavy and stillwurkin Thank this. -
Don't feel that bad for them. ( the companies that purchased maxxforce) . They really should have known better. Why purchase something that has no track record..when there were plenty of other well proven engines on the market? When the manufacturers say " proven millions of miles in tests" i would sit back and let someone else be the guinea pig. Jmo.

Companies purchase trucks with no track record all the time....especially in recent years. Volvo, Mack, and Peterbilt have created their own motors. What track record existed with the Paccar motor?NavigatorWife and stillwurkin Thank this.

That takes a 2 part answer.
1° the mechanical side.
It did have a track record .
Engine was sold since 06 in the EU.
Same as the D13 Volvo engine which is the basis for the Mack.
2° the emissions.
DEF systems were in use since 06 in the EU but nobody had combined DPF and EGR with DEF.
The EPA 10 trucks were the first ones worldwide to do this.
As to MEGR which Navistar was promothing.........given the problems with EGR (EPA07) it should have been clear that it would not work.
Btw MEGR means Massive EGR.NavigatorWife and bryan21384 Thank this. -
In fact the only ones who have seemed to have gotten the formula right from an emissions standpoint was DTNA,which we all know uses SCR and DEF in the Detroit engine lineup.
bryan21384 Thanks this. -
In my eyes, Navistar was crap long before the Trashforce was even in development.

I think they were better years back. I purchased a IH 9670 new in 1982. Drove it 17 years or so. One thing i remember is the rear differential was never rebuilt. Over 1 mil. miles. That was also using mineral (no synthetic) gear oil. Kendall 3-star. I don't know who made the rears but they were good, had the IH stamped on the housing. The cab also held up well. Frame and rear housings never got as much surface rust as my Petes have. But they have been cutting quality in the last number of years. Don't think they will recover the customer loyalty they once had.AModelCat Thanks this.
