    That is ####ed.

I get some of those trucks are pushing a million bucks so I could see $6-8k to put a truck back on its wheels and towed away by the time you factor in traffic control and some minor cleanup of spilled fuel/oil. 10x that cost is pure robbery.

Curious.. in cases where it’s an accident. Are they charging these crazy prices because the insurance company will pickup the entire tab.

If at all possible, never let the police call the towing company. Let your company deal with that.
One company that let the police call the towing company was charged over $200,000.00 for the tow.
The towing company padded the bill with everything you can imagine, including "Putting a swimmer in the water" even though the wreck was on dry land with no water within miles.

Local tow company in my home town said depending on what needs unloaded, how bad the clean up is, if they can stack the load or if it needs roll offs, etc that a truck on its side can easily hit $35k.

My old boss had a guy wreck on 191 in the canyon south of Big Sky MT back in 16 or 17. It scattered lumber from hell to breakfast. The cab and sleeper came off the frame. The conestoga was destroyed. Not sure what all equipment was needed or how many man hours it was picking up sticks but that bill was well over $70k.

I had a fuel spill one time from a punctured fuel tank that was hit by road debris.
I didn't report it; just drove a piece of wood into the hole which stopped the leak, then drove back to the terminal 2 or 3 hundred miles. Saved the company tons of money on hazmat cleanup.

For sure. There's probably close to $500/hour going out the window just to pay the labourers, traffic controllers and machine operators their wages. If you've got a team of 8-10 people on cleanup there's an easy 40+ man hours on a 5 hour cleanup.
