BEANCOUNTER, I just graduated from Sage's school in Yadkinville, NC and applied at Howard Transportation. One of our instructors HIGHLY recommends Howard and knows their recruiter in NC real well. Unfortunately, they don't have any openings right now. I guess I'll have to try Carrier #2. Good luck to you!

Hello, Jerell10 and Welcome to the Site:)

I will let one of the guys who attended JCCTDT answer that question in detail. Usually, you work on getting your permit. Get a CDL manual from the DMV and start, if you have not already. The

http://www.cristcdl.com/otc/ website, is a great training aid.

    Keep us posted.

    Best of Luck!!!!!!

Yeah, you have to have your permit before you start class. The first couple of days is getting your books, paperwork and general info. About day 3 you have a transmission class on how to shift and what not. Then day 4 or 5 you hit the road. Yeah, YOU drive! Its kinda scary but after the first couple of mins its great! You'll be off in the boonies and just practice up and downshifting. Just take your time, relax and listen to the instructors. Good luck and keep us posted. Oh btw, invest in a good rainsuit and keep in your car. You train rain or shine.

Good luck Jerrell. From what I heard the class b4 u was rough! But you will have gr8 instructors and remember this... They will have you doin some seemingly BS practice but believe me I use it every day and would be in a mess without it.

And howard was my top pick Damacro. TWT jus called first and after working for a month howard called back! I couldn't go that long w/o a check but would def go there if this tanker yankin doesn't work out.

After my week 1 at JCC all I can say is WOW.First couple of days was books, paperwork and general info and day 3 we had transmisson class like camofrawg83 said...then on day 4, half of the class went on the road with the diesel trucks and the other half did field exercise...My half did field excercises. On day 5 I went on the road and I was the first one to drive after the instructor finish demonstrating how to up shift and down shift. I did very good for driving a tractor trailer for the first time.I drove for 90 min. On my First ride evaluation I recevied all checks and the instructor remarks was VERY GOOD 1ST RIDE. After I finished there where two people left to drive and I was more nerves riding then driving. One student could not stay calm and kept forgetting what gear he was in....the other student tried to kill us by almost running a red light.....the instructor told her to stop and she kept going so he pulled the hand valve and turned the engine break on and we slid half way into the intersection and to make things worst smithfiled police was beside us the hold time that happen. Besides that It was very very fun and I can't wait until we go on the road again..............................................We drove the 2001 Sterling

Sounds like you're off to a great start! After reading about your fellow students, I feel better about my first day. I didn't break any traffic laws, but I thought I was going to give the instructor whiplash with my shifting. ;) Keep up the posts.

Congrats on a good first ride. Is Donald Maddison still on the Sterling? That thing was my baby. And b4 its all over you'll have lots of funny/ near death stories. Just wait till you hit downtown Raleigh.... Should be this week ;). Good luck and relax. Long as they say "keep the sunny side up and the rubber side down you're good".
