Awww. I can find parking. Even if it's a 2 acre lot in the early day time with a hotel on one side and a joint on the other any place. Just not on the interstate system.

I once took up half a chinese joint for breakfast in the coast where english is not exactly a common language there. There is a people who speaks all their own for hundreds of years. Still have parking.

What bothers me about NC more than anything is not picking flowers. Dont pick. Don't pick... some of us have tendancies...

I love watching the Mess at exit 37 in Candler after 5pm......
Its a TA now, But it was a TravelPort (Buckhorn) in my early days which was set up for 45'-48' wagons with small conventionals or cabovers...

Watching everyone take 30 minutes to park those 53 footers in quite a scene......

Duhhhh. The same can be said for many states and regions all across the nation. But it's good to see a state actually looking into the situation to the extent they truly care. But this leads back to something I've been saying for a while. Something has to give, and very soon. And this will in all likelihood involve states creating large truck parking areas where land and access is available. The regulatory state will not allow private business to do what needs to be done. where it needs to be done. But furthermore, the private industry is reluctant to invest too much money where it is likely to become mostly a "parking area" where little or no money is spent. The government is a huge part of the reason for this problem, so the government must step up and become a huge part of the solution (if that's even possible).

Thing is,... the reason(s) they're looking into a situation to the extent they truly care usually involves more than meets the eye. I imagine folks will opine that it doesn't matter as long as what was needed had those needs met. I don't say they're wrong. Sometimes it's in the pork received as an incentive that's bothersome.
Shouldn't be a problem. If necessary there's always eminent domain to invoke for those areas with little open land available for a reasonable price.

And the government is us, you and me and the millions who are reading this post, aka: Taxpayers.

Because private industry is reluctant to invest in creating a solution to a situation due to the hoops wrapped with red tape they have to jump through compared with the return on their investment, just doesn't make good business sense.

Will the states find it necessary to provide the needed workers to maintain a parking area? If so, would they need haz-mat training to handle the jugs that will be strewn about?
State workers and the equipment necessary to perform their job would be provided by the taxpayers, --- without the help of business taxes the cities and states extract from private businesses, property taxes, water, sewage, and the list goes on.
Although local business near a parking area could realize an increase in business, that being good, would probably not increase their taxes enough to even put a dent in the cost of maintaining a Big truck truck parking area, (with 4-wheelers pulling camping trailers that make camp in the parking area for Big trucks.)

The "mom and pops" are a drop in the bucket compared to what is needed. But most are full or overflowing at 04:00 so I'm not really sure where you see such a parking space bonanza.

This problem is no different than the need and means to make airports materialize. Taxpayers and consumers have always paid for these, wether they used them personally or not. It is the way it is.

Yes, they will have to provide numerous large dumpsters along the egress route. Yes, they will have piss-bombs. But this is nothing new for landfills. Yes, they will have to have a crew to keep them mowed and reasonably kept up, as well as well lit, and plowed.

But it's just gotta happen at taxpayer/consumer expense. No ifs and or buts about it. Everybody benefits from truckers, so let those consumers pay these costs. People always say "if we can just save one life, the costs will be worth it", well put your money where your mouth is. Without safe parking areas, then we're forced to park in unsafe areas to satisfy HOS limits. So, what do you want to do?

I want to see a solution to the situation, just like you do. I don't disagree with the importance of creating ample parking to accommodate Big trucks to help drivers to be compatible with HOS demands.

I'm domiciled near the Ontario, California truck stops at the I-10 & I-15. Those truck stops are a thorn in that city's side. They proposed taking a portion of the parking areas to reconfigure the off ramp. The revenue from those stops helped the city grow. And the city grew warehouses, a lot of warehouses. And promptly designated the area as No Big Truck Parking.
I see that as contributing to a problem and irresponsible.

When and where many warehouses are grouped together there needs to be parking areas provided for Big trucks to park if needed while scheduled to load or unload in that area. Not necessarily for general parking.
That would be a place to start.
