talk to a local dealer, sometimes they are able to help with financing even though you aren't buying the truck through them
Need a bit of insight

You want at least $20k for a maintenance fund. You will be surprised how fast you can go through money on a truck. Also if you have to pay a mechanic to do the work it eats your money faster.

I am mechanically inclined and am able to do most of what is in a Pm and oil change. When it gets into the deeper engine or computer/ electrical I am not as good.

Just a suggestion....
Myself I'd creep slowly away from that truck. High miles and it'll be hard to get someone to finance it. But if you found a newer truck with decent mileage you could get a nice warranty. I'm double warrantied thru Cummings and a secondary warranty. And I still get nervous when something happens and I'm in the middle of nowhere, not bc of the repair but bc of the "time off" getting the repair. By the sound of your situation ,you will be like the rest of us ...we are all basically hard workers and can't afford the time in the shop. And we all know. When you get there it'll be NEXT Tuesday before they can get THAT particular part shipped...ugh
i did what you're thinking about doing once, but I was able to get a warranty on mine, and boy was I glad i did bc I rolled into Knoxville and she blew. Two weeks later that $3500 ( back then) saved me $26,000 And I didn't spend a dime on the overhaul. But I lost 2 weeks pay,but back then I was making 5 times of what I do today and still it was an excruciating pain in the arse!
All of us like different trucks, motors but all mechanics I speak too dread the cat,and with that high mileage I'd be leary. I went to a Navistar Dealer, and they were more than good to me,but not sure all dealers are the same. Financing was easy and they fixed anything that was not right from the get go.
...just my two lil centsRusty86 Thanks this. -
I've avoided newer trucks as much as I can. Pre emissions. No issues.
But with putting what you're all saying into consideration I think I may go
look for a newer Pete. -

I run an 04 kw with a cat and it has 760k and runs like it was brand new and what I cant do myself I take to my dads boss where they charge a decent price compared to others and ive never heard anybody say they dread working on a cat. now when it comes to the Volvo engine that's a whole another story. Im currently looking at another truck that I may buy that has a mechanical moter with 750k and not scared in the least. These newer trucks with egrs (which thanks to the EPA you can no longer do an egr delete) dpf and def are junk and break down a lot. my buddy with international with a cummins and dpf filter is in the shop on a regular basis and my truck in the last year was in shop once to replace a water pump. so tell me again how the newer trucks are better for business.
Rusty86 Thanks this. -
